Social Darwinism

One example of cultural borrowing is the adoption of sushi in various parts of the world. Sushi originated in Japan but has been adapted and integrated into different cuisines globally, such as sushi burritos in the United States.

Social Darwinism is the theory that individuals and societies follow the same evolutionary principles as biological organisms, where only the strongest and most fit survive and thrive. This ideology was used to justify social inequality, imperialism, and policies that favored competition and individualism. However, it has been widely discredited for its harmful and simplistic views on society.

Examples of cultural transmission include teaching language, passing down traditional skills like weaving or farming techniques, sharing religious beliefs, practicing ceremonies or rituals, and passing on storytelling or folklore through generations.

Max Weber introduced the term "Protestant work ethic" to describe a belief system that emphasizes hard work, thrift, and self-discipline as a means to achieve success and salvation in Protestant Christian societies.

Émile Durkheim is the sociologist who saw society as a vast network of connected parts, where each part contributes to the maintenance of the system as a whole. He is known for his work on social integration and the functioning of society as a cohesive unit.

Boys do not "want" to be gay; sexual orientation is not a choice. Sexual orientation is a natural and intrinsic part of who a person is. It is important to respect and support individuals regardless of their sexual orientation.

Emile Durkheim advocated the idea that people must be socially integrated in society. He believed that social integration promoted stability and solidarity within a community, leading to a cohesive society.

The argument that all cultures are equally valid is known as moral relativism. The main thrust behind moral relativism is that there are no universal truths and that morality is relative the the cultural, social, historical or personal view point of that culture, society, history or person. Moral relativism is one point of view in itself. There are, and were cultures that practiced cannibalism as part of their social structure. These cultures have never developed into any social structure higher than that which we call today as primitive. What is meant by primitive is that this society never built cities or edifices on the same par with the rest of the world. For the most part, most countries in the world have progressed together in terms of art, technology and understanding of the world that surrounds them. Those societies that remain stagnant while the rest of the world progresses towards modernity are known as primitive societies. The moral relativist would argue that this primitivism is no more good or bad than the modern societies. These moral relativists, however, or more often than not, found in modern societies and not in primitive ones.

Social Darwinism, that of believing that all creation came about from tiny organizims and proceeded to grow and develop on their own, is still very much alive. From scientific examination, one can conclude, that indeed this is how all life began. However, coming from a Chrisitian standpoint, all creation comes from God. Now, the two can come together and conclude that all life begins with tiny organisims--matter--but developed only through and from, the power of God.

The main difference between male and female livers is in size and metabolism. Generally, male livers are larger and metabolize drugs and alcohol differently due to hormonal influences. However, the basic structure and function of the liver are the same in both genders.

Was the belief that competition was part of human evolution and poverty existed as part of the natural order of things and that the small percentage of the wealthy at the top were the more evolved class of people. The belief applied terms from Darwin's An Origin of Species to social aspects of humans. Like, survival of the fittest and natural selection. It was a belief among many wealthy American businessmen: Sociologist Herbert Spencer; William Graham Sumner who wrote What Social Classes Owe to Each Other was considered the most influential Social Darwinist, he argued that social programs to designed to aid poor people worked against nature; Andrew Carnegie applied Darwin's survival of the fittest to society by believing that a free-market economy and noninterference of the government allowed the fittest to evolve. These people believed they were rich because they were evolutionally superior human beings.

Dale Carnegie did not specifically address Social Darwinism in his works. He was known more for his self-help and communication strategies, emphasizing positive interpersonal relationships and effective communication skills.

In a sense they are compatible, but not necessary for one another. Social darwinism implies that the strong is society will thrive will the weak will die, while eugenics is putting that into practice.

Social Darwinism, with its emphasis on the survival of the fittest, was generally opposed to many kinds of regulation. However, most Social Darwinists did not favour a complete free-for-all. At the very least, most acknowledged that there had to be laws to protect life, liberty and property and that these laws had to be enforced. So, even in economic life Social Darwinists wanted a level playing field of sorts, where fraud (and certain unfair practices) would be banned. Please note that in Social Darwinist thought, there is an awareness that human beings in society need to live by somewhat different rules from human being in nature, in the wild. They certainly did not equate "fit" with "brawny"; they stressed, for example, the role of intelligence as a form of fitness, and Francis Galton and others played a part in the development of the psychometric intelligence theory. Many were intellectuals and had a horror of rule by thuggery. The early Social Darwinists usually claimed that their theories had an ethical dimension.

Culture is thought to have biological basis as it is shaped by evolution and is influenced by our brain structure, genetics, and social behavior. Brain areas such as the prefrontal cortex and limbic system play a role in shaping cultural norms, values, and behaviors. Additionally, genetic studies suggest that genes can influence cultural traits such as language, altruism, and social learning.

Social Darwinism justified the belief that certain individuals or groups were inherently superior to others, based on the idea of survival of the fittest. It was often used to justify imperialism, racism, and economic inequality by suggesting that these were natural outcomes of competition and evolution.

Freedom of speech allows someone to voice their opinion concerning a social issue without fear of censorship or retaliation from the government.

The conflict perspective would be most likely to suggest that multinational corporations exploit local workers to maximize profits. This perspective views society as being marked by inequality and believes that powerful groups will take advantage of less powerful ones to maintain dominance and control resources.

"Painstaking" refers to performing a task with great care, attention to detail, and diligence. It involves putting in a lot of effort and taking time to ensure that the task is completed thoroughly and accurately.

Social Disorganization is a facet of Social Control Theory developed by Emile Durkheim that says that conformity in society comes from everyone in a society agreeing that the rules of that society are legitimate and choosing to follow them. In this theory, deviance comes from not being well integrated into society.

"Panther" can refer to leopards or cougars, but I'm pretty sure you mean cougar. Either way, panthers are solitary like most cats. Panthers only come together to mate, and then they separate again. However, cubs do enjoy playing with their siblings.

Social Darwinists believed that individuals and societies competed in a struggle for existence, where only the fittest would survive and prosper. They applied Charles Darwin's theory of natural selection to human societies, arguing that government intervention in social and economic affairs would interfere with this natural process and hinder progress. This belief system justified practices such as laissez-faire capitalism and imperialism.

According to the theory of social Darwinism, the government should not intervene in the natural selection process of society. This theory suggests that only the strongest and most capable individuals should survive and thrive, without government interference.

Artificial selection interested Darwin because it demonstrated that traits could be modified over generations through selective breeding. This process allowed humans to intentionally choose which traits were passed on to offspring, leading Darwin to realize that a similar natural process could occur in nature, driving evolution through natural selection.
