market socialism is a term used to denote two different economic system based in socialism which operate according tomarket priniciples.

Generally speaking, Yes. Capitalists argue that the government should have no role or a minimal role in controlling and directing businesses. Socialists argue that the government should either own and direct business or use stringent regulations to guide business activities.

As for other ideologies, these are different among people. However, every one is required to respect the ideologies of others. One may be capitalist, socialist, communist, religious, Jewish, Christian, Muslim, ... what so ever.

It depends what you mean by "most powerful".

If you mean "most advanced", Communism was the most advanced stage of society posited by Karl Marx and Engels. The progression was from Feudalism to Capitalism to Socialism to Communism.

If by powerful you mean the most influential paradigm and ideology today, it would be capitalism in its neoliberal flavor.

It is true that capitalism is a market-based economy.

Socialism can be either market-based or based on economic planning. However, even in socialist planned economies, there would still be markets in consumer goods and some markets for capital goods, so socialism would still include a role for markets.

On the other hand, fully-developed communism would NOT be a market-based economy.

Few utopian communities lasted very long; most fell apart when the members got tired of the rules and decided to leave.

This is not strictly true. Each have their benefits and cons.

A free market economy is one in which the allocation of scarce resources and the price set to the consumer is completely set by market forces.

Pro's:

-People who have jobs benefit a lot since they are not having to pay for others welfare. -Prices can often be lower due to greater efficiencies and competition.

Con's:

-People who end up in a bad situation in life will struggle to get out of the rut and could end up dying due to a lack of welfare support, this breeds great inequality.

-There is little or no way of controlling business due to a lack of government intervention meaning that firms can start monopolies and cartels which can easily lead to abuse of the consumer.

A socialist form of economy is completely the opposite and would sort of take the form of a Communist one; the other way to describe it is a Command economy; one which is controlled by the Government.

For example the UK is a mixed economy which until recently was 60% Free Market and 40% Command; it was one of the fairest systems in the world equality wise but suffered from great inefficiency.

On the other hand the USA of the same time period was around 90% Free Market and 10% Command (Don't quote me on that however may have been 80:20). Now this was very efficient however they suffered from hugely deprived areas with large Multinationals abusing consumers; especially in the wake of New Orleans.

A good book to read on this subject is Naomi Kleins: 'Shock Doctrine.' Furthermore for an extreme socialist economy look up the bad old days of Russia when it was still the Soviet Union.

In the years after Lenin's death, there was a great rift among the Bolsheviks/Communists whether it would be best to have worldwide socialism/communism or whether it should be established in one country first. Stalin realized that other industrialized capitalist countries such as Germany and England were not going to experience the proletarian revolutions that Marx had predicted; therefore he tightened the government's grip on the Soviet Union's economy and forced it to bow to socialism. His theory was that once socialism had a strong foothold in one country, it could be spread to other countries. If socialism did not have such a foothold, it might be overthrown.
