Well many young girls start playing t-ball with boys. however as they move up to six and under there is coach pitch softball. Eight and under they can start to pitch themselves, then comes 10 and under, then 12, then 14, then 16, then up to 18. However many girls play on tournament team that go around the state, area, region, or nation. These girls are often the ones that play for their high school teams and can sometimes pick up scholarships to small community or junior colleges all the way up to major division 1 colleges. The best from college go on to play in a major league setting and hopefully play for team U.S.A., that is until it was taken out of the olympics.

A normal softball game in the NCAA is seven innings. In order to meet the requirements for an official NCAA softball game, the game must finish five full innings if it has been stopped due to rain. This means that both the home and away teams must be both at bat and on the field five times. Another way for the game to become official is for the home team to be ahead by eight runs after five innings have been played.

If your playing Pitcher then a glove and a mask, !st base a glove, 2nd a glove, short stop a glove maybe a mask as well, 3rd a glove and a mask if wanted, catcher a glove, helmet, chest pad, sheen guards, and what ever else you need. But when you go up to bat a helmet and bat! And don't leave out the team uniform!:) lol

Sadly, softball has been eliminated from the 2012 Olympics so the future doesn't look bright, even though there are thousands of young girls in many different countries participating in the sport.

Softball can try to put in a bid for the 2016 Olympics where hopefully the olympic comittee will place them in.

Softball is played on a diamond shaped field, generally known as a baseball diamond. The ball is bigger than the one used in baseball, but softball uses the same positions: catcher, pitcher, 1st basemen, 2nd basemen, 3rd basemen, short stop, and 3 outfielders (center, left, and right). The catcher wears a lot of protection on their knees (legs), chest , and face, and wears a catcher's mitt. When the ball is pitched, the player up to bat hits the ball with the bat, runs to 1st base, but depending on the hit, may attempt to get to 2nd, 3rd, or home. If the ball is caught by a player on the opposing team before touching the ground, then the batter is out. A player is also out if a member of the opposing team steps on the base, which a player is running to, before that player gets there. In this case, the member of the opposing team must have the ball in his/her hand. However, if it is not a force (when a player must go to the next base because the batter behind them must take their base) then a player must be tagged (touched by the ball) by a player from the opposing team in order for the player to be considered out. Sliding (throwing one's body at the base, as opposed to just running to it) is only used for when tagging is necessary to get that player out. There are usually 7 innings (both teams at bat before 3 outs counts as 1 inning) with nine players on the field at once.

Not many boys play softball but it is not illegal. im 11 and i almost pitch bbetter softball than baseball. ( i play baseball). so if i could find a league that guys play softball, i would go there definitly. the reason most girls play softball because back ago, girls were not allowed to play baseball so they created softball. it was just a sexus thing to do.
