Do people committ suicide because of family members?

Yes I think they do. Right now I'm considering it for the same reason.

Commentary...

Humans are extremely social animals, so yes -- isolate a human and thoughts of suicide are pretty normal. This happens with all humans and it happens all the time. Interestingly, cure the isolation and things often get a lot better all at once.

There's good new though. People often fail to form attachments with others due to a fear of embarrassment. If you're actually considering killing yourself, doesn't embarrassment become something of a non-issue?

In fact, if you're really considering killing yourself, aren't you in a nearly unique position where you can try most anything you want, including establishing contact, without fear of long term negative results? :}

This then would be the time to ask the Prom Queen out!

If I sound flip, please know I'm not -- I'm utterly serious about this. Before writing everything off, try some new approaches -- what's the risk?

How many people committed suicide in the year 2019?

The year 2014 is in the future. The question cannot be answered with any certainty. While I hope the current rate of about 18 suicides per 100,00 people goes down, I have no confidence that it will.

Why should one not commit suicide as soon as possible?

Mostly themselves. Suicide is a selfish act. Sometimes it is for the insurance money, but they could also be thinking about the pain.

Answer:Either what's on the other side or what they are leaving behind. Answer:It is annoying when people make blanket statements about things they know nothing. Those who have not been there are not qualified to say. For instance this question. Those who attempt or succeed at suicide are no doubt in an egocentric stage, however egocentrism is not always selfish. It would be arrogant to assume that no one who commits suicide is selfish, but it is just as arrogant to assume that all are.

There are a number of elements that can initiate egocentrism, many never originate with the person; that is they come from outside sources and result in egocentric perceptions. Only those who live in a vacuum could say otherwise.

Many people consider suicide an option...

...to have control over the time of their own death, when.

...to decide how they will go out.

...to reduce costs for family members (this more in the event of a terminal illness that will cost thousands or perhaps millions when the end result is the same).

...to reduce the emotional impact on family members (although the reality does not match the perception).

...because they feel they have suffered enough.

...because they feel unloved.

...because they are depressed...

...because they may feel unfairly judged by others.

...because of a chemical imbalance or other physiological factors.

...because of social, familiy, or other problems.

...because of high debt.

...because of any situation that typically makes people sad or depressed.

...because they feel unworthy of life.

Please talk to a counselor about your problems, nothing is bad enough to be worth taking your own life.

If you are at the point where you really feel it's better to die than to go on living, then you have hit bottom, and once you hit bottom, there's really no place else to go but up. So what have you got to lose by staying for the ride back up? You have far, far more to gain by going up, and absolutely nothing to lose by taking that trip back up, to the place where your life can be happy and fulfilling.

If your life is at a place where suicide seems better than going on, think about some very important things. Life can turn from horrible to wonderful in a very short period of time. Your life, whether you know it today or not, has a positive impact on someone. It might be your family, your friends, your co-workers, your neighbors... there is someone that knows you in a way that you can't see.

Suicide is permanent... there's no turning back. The deep feelings you have today will be different tomorrow; regardless of how down you feel, you'll have something tomorrow that can, if you let it, make you feel better. Our problems are often so great, so real and feel so devastating that leaving life behind seems like the only answer. But it's not an answer. It leaves many, many questions for anyone we leave.

Please sleep. Please cry hard, if you must, and talk to someone who loves you. But please, also, put the idea of making a permanent end to what could be temporary problems out of your head. Every life has purpose. Every single life. Please try to find yours before thinking about killing yourself.

No matter how bad it is right now, it can only get better- when you are down try doing something nice for someone else. It sounds a little lame but it works, scientifically it's called a helper's high. It gets your mind off depressing things and helps you add value to society and confidence for yourself.

Suicide is illegal in many countries (WikiAnswers cannot facilitate the commission of any crime) and besides we care about you and want you to live.

When you Drown yourself can you go to Heaven?

Not everyone believes the same about suicide.

Catholics, and Protestants who believe in the theory of mortal sin, would say no, a person who commits suicide cannot go to Heaven.

According to the Holy Roman Church, a mortal sin is a grievous offense committed with full knowledge and consent of the will, and if it is not confessed and absolved the sinner will go to Hell. There is no way a person who committed suicide could confess and absolve, so he will go to Hell.

Protestant religions who claim anyone who believes on the Lord and is saved will go to Heaven, which presumably means if you're a Christian in one of those churches and you kill yourself, you're going to Heaven. To this I can only say, read Matthew 7:21.

Clarification of the Catholic beliefs on suicide:

Mortal sin

Regarding being in a state of mortal sin, the Catechism of the Catholic Church lays down three conditions - all of which must be met:

"For a sin to be mortal, three conditions must together be met: "Mortal sin is sin whose object is grave matter and which is also committed with full knowledge and deliberate consent."(paragraph 1857). If any one of these conditions is not fulfilled, there is no state of mortal sin. In paragraph 1860 the Catechism goes on to list some of the things which can reduce consent: feelings, passion, mental disorders and external pressure.

Most importantly, paragraph 1861 states: "Mortal sin is a radical possibility of human freedom, as is love itself....However, although we can judge that an act is in itself a grave offense, we must entrust judgment of persons to the justice and mercy of God." In other words, although Catholicism believes that freedom means it is possible for a person to reject God's love and forgiveness, the Church refuses to say that there is anyone in Hell; that is known only to God.

Suicide

As to suicide itself the Catechism states:

"Grave psychological disturbances, anguish, or grave fear of hardship, suffering, or torture can diminish the responsibility of the one committing suicide." (paragraph 2282)

"We should not despair of the eternal salvation of persons who have taken their own lives. By ways known to him alone, God can provide the opportunity for salutary repentance. The Church prays for persons who have taken their own lives." (paragraph 2283)

Again, the Catholic Church places strict conditions on being truly responsible; even then the Church leaves open the possibility of Heaven.

Culpability

Bearing these things in mind, it would be argued that a person who habitually considers suicide is not in a healthy emotional state because the instinct of self preservation is one of the most basic humans possess. A depressed emotional state reduces a person's freedom and thus culpability. If mental illness is added to the scenario, then the level of responsibility (and thus freedom) is even more greatly diminished. In short, from the perspective of Catholicism (and probably most religions) a person who suffers from a mental illness (or even depression) does not have a sufficient amount of freedom for the act of suicide to be considered a sin. Therefore, it is unimaginable that God would keep such a person from entering heaven.

Why do some people commit suicide naked?

Perhaps they were 'strip ping away' what they felt was societal the clothing being a symbol of what society had to offer them. Also maybe at the same time they are saying society is messed up - not trying to be graphic or harsh but doesn't that imagery in your head give you the same cup of tea so to speak ? Not a pretty scenery in short.

As far as her stripping her children naked and walking into traffic same as before it can be taken in a broadened spectrum or looked at as the obvious answer 'just pure insanity'.

I think the answer isn't as much apart of why as apart of how. How are their minds running. What provoked them to do it.

and if Why; Why are there rare cases of suicidal impulses provoked with nudity and stripping of garments.

But only deeper probing and questions can answer this - perhaps probing in correlation to repetitiveness aka insanity is apart of the answer.

How do you define it though when every one goes to work repeatedly on any given day or you eat 3 - 6 meals (6 being the obvious turning 3 into 6 smaller portion meals).

It has a lot to do with how your brain functions - that is a common sense sort of theory wouldn't you say? Hint; outside factors such as sensory cortex, audible and or neurological disorders in general could accompany and compile with the already depressive suicidal tendencies and dementia.

Perhaps it is in correlation to all those things I listed under 'hint'?

Could be as simple a thought as, "I came into this world with nothing, and that's the way I'm going out."

What is the oldest age of a person to commit suicide?

However -- I don't believe there is an average age for committing suicide. It just depends on the mental/emotional health of the individual.

serious alcohol and drug addiction can strip you of your entire life...everything and everyone you once cherished and who cherished you....it leaves you with no self respect...no will power....no home...clothes...money...no life....sometimes the prospect of ever trying to get it all back is so unatainable....a lot of people in that position just carry on with the addiction which they and everyone else knows is going to kill them eventually....so that in itself is a form of suicide.....slow but sure

How many teens think about suicide?

We don't know, because many of them keep their gay feelings to themselves. There are studies that suggest that perhaps quite a number of teen suicides are from youths who are struggling with their sexual orientation.

Each suicide involves a premature ending of a precious human life. Not all such deaths are preventable by others. Suicide by individuals that can be related to sexual orientation can be linked to bullying at school/college. Statistics on all suicides are believed to be good approximations only because of suicide's inherent complexities.

An unreliable figure that is seen in the literature re gay suicides is 30% of all suicides among 15 - 24 year olds. A recent report estimated that 1 in 5 gay and lesbian teenagers had attempted suicide. Less terminal coping methods included alcohol, truancy, eating disorders and aggression/hostility.

Read the related question below about Gay Youth suicide.

Is suicide or attempted suicide against the law in Washington?

Suicide is not against the law, as there can be no human punishment for someone who has successfully committed it. Attempted suicide will not bring criminal charges against you, but you will most likely be taken in for psychological evaluation whether you want to be or not, and can be held until they feel you are no longer a threat to yourself or anyone else.....which could be days, weeks, months and sometimes years.

Can you be sued for stopping a suicide?

Anyone can always sue you, so in theory yes you could get sued for stopping a suicide attempt. Though it is not likely that it will be a successful case, it is a controversial subject, someone could always try to sue you.

How many people commit suicide in the U.S.?

This question is very difficult if not impossible to answer because the vast majority of people who try to end their own lives do not openly tell anyone. Also many people who deliberately harm themselves but do not die in that "harming attempt" may not have meant to end their own lives.

However it is believed that for each "completed" suicide - an intentional action by a person that ends their life - there may be up to 30 "attempted suicides".

For example in the US in 2006 (latest final statistics) 33,300 people died by suicide or over 91 every day. This means that about 30 times that number may have tried, but failed, to end their lives.

This works out at 2,730 every day.

What gender is more likely to commit suicide in the military?

Women attempt suicide more than men, but men have higher suicide rates than women because they almost always use more lethal methods such as shooting themselves or jumping off a very tall building/structure. Women tend to use overdosing on pills, gasing the inside of their car, or other less aggressive methods.
