Before this is answered, consider that under the various Christian denominations, Christ as God is all-powerful. Yet, he permitted the children of his creation to take his life. In essence, as horrifying as it might seem, Christ commuted suicide. "No greater love can be seen than he who lays down his life for another." Now, the answer of sorts. The only sin that sends a sole to Help is the denial of the Holy Spirit, others may say firings out of a state of grace. First, the Sixth Command is quite clear that mankind is not to kill/murder mankind and this includes suicide. Only God who created can rightly destroy.
Second, the Bible never teaches 'eternal damnation' but plainly teaches the 2nd Death - total physical cessation and ashes from the Lake of Fire. Only spirits who became demons will be eternally tormented for their sins.
Finally, the Bible uses the Hebrew term 'Sheol' and the equivalent Greek term 'Hades' for the grave or pit. This translate to the English term 'hell' and is the common resting place of all mankind - Even Jesus was in 'hell' 3 days and 3 nights. Death is commonly associated with 'sleep' in the Scripture and all who die sleep and await their call to the Judgement process by Christ. Only those incorrigibly unrepentant with those who were previously called in life but rejected the gift of God's Holy Spirit (aka the Spirit of Christ) - the Unpardonable Sin - will be cast into the Lake of Fire. All who never understood or never had their call to eternal life, will receive their chance during this process (it is not a sentencing for the majority of mankind). God is equally fair to everyone.

It depends on the state of mind, Culture, and Religion. Lets take a look at someone who has absolutely nothing to live for: No Family, no Friends, treated poorly through their lives, their Atheist so they assume a blissful nothingness awaits them, never had a Lover, just lost their job, you get the idea, their pretty depressed and most likely feeling worthlessness/hopelessness. If they contemplate suicide, it's probably rational. You can't even say it's selfish in this scenario because who would it be selfish to?
Now killing yourself suddenly out of an argument with your Boyfriend/Girlfriend would be irrational because it's something that you'll easily deal with with a few months of time or so. Emotions are running high and in the heat of the moment, you might do something stupid. You'd be hurting everyone around you, and be destroying your future/dreams.
Now lets look at Culture. Go back to World War II, some Japanese soldiers were actually EXPECTED to kill themselves if they had lost the War. Irrational? Maybe to a Western. If you were Japanese living 70 years ago, you'd think much differently than you do now.
In the end, it's only irrational if they have some sort of mental disorder, or their flooding with strong emotions all at once. Suicide is simply thought to be an evil, selfish, irrational act by so many people because the word "Suicide" doesn't give anyone else gain. It can only lose.
I sometimes think so, but I look around and remember why life is worth living for, all the people that would suffer because of 1 choice, make a change. It is not an option nor a solution. Life is tough for all of us find your higher calling whatever that may be.
It is an option but not one that you should or should want to take. Death is final. Once you commit suicide you can never, ever take that back. Get help if you are considering suicide as an option.

All humans will go to hell in this sense as even Jesus spent 3 full days and nights there in the tomb.
When the dead are called to awaken, they will go to the Judgement process. This will include the vast majority of mankind - less the firstfruits and the incorrigibly unrepentant wicked who will face the 2nd death in the Lake of Fire.
Modern concepts of hell taught by many Churches are more closely associated with Dante's Inferno and is not Scriptural.
