Yes a camp for a 14year old is old, as he has just become a teenagers he will get ample chance to meet boys of his own age and grow up and learn new things as well.

• All legitimate camps have counselors to keep the kids safe and well looked after. Get the counselor to phone your parents and perhaps visit them at your home to explain what the camp is like and what the rules of that camp are and this may change your parent's mind. If you cannot do that then if one or more of your friends are going have their parents phone your parents. Many parents hear a lot more horror stories about camps than you will ever hear at your age and you are lucky they care enough to keep you safe because they love you.

Whether or not you shower naked at summer camp depends on the showers at camp and your level of comfort. If the showers have doors or if they have an extra room at the front to change in you should not worry about showering naked, since there is privacy. If the curtains are thin or if the bathrooms are incredibly crowded when you want to shower you may want to wear your swimsuit to shower.

While not a special-needs camp, we (The Ballibay Camps) have had many campers with Asperger's Syndrome and campers on the Autism Spectrum over the years with great success. We consider this a happy accident of our program structure: we alternate great freedom with strict regularity. The meal times, cabin times, event time, and lesson times are to-the-minute; but the spaces between those activities are very open: campers can work in the art studios, email home, read a book, play games (chess is very popular), study lies for their play, or practice an instrument, or go to the pool. Since we have an outstanding staff-to-camper ratio (never worse than 1:3, and usually better), supervision of all campers is possible even though campers have such freedom in their schedules. I often tell parents that our camp has much more the feel of a college campus than a summer camp or school. This clearly appeals to our Asperger's and Autism Spectrum kids, and these children typically return to us for several or many summers (as do most children; we have an 80% return rate...). It was closed in 1995/1996 & was sold. In 2000 SpringHill Camps, a Christian Camp Organization, reopened the camp. It now offers summer camp, retreats and a lot more. Fun place

Children's tents can be purchased in a number of places. If it is just summer camp, and you can guarantee dry weather you can pick up a relatively cheap single skin tent from Argos or Millets. One should note however; single skin tents do not allow adequate airflow and so condensation will build up on the inside of the tent, making it wet. Many people think it is a leak but there is nothing anyone can do. If you are expecting rain, look at a double skinned tent with a hydrostatic head of 1500mm or higher. If properly erected this will ensure everything inside the tent remains dry. These are available from Blacks, Ellis Brigham, GO Outdoors or Cotswolds and come in a range of types. For children; the easiest to put up would be a dome tent.

It really just depends on the camp. I know the camp that I went to, Pali Adventures, had campers from 7-16!

Iron-on name tags are much quicker to use, you just iron them on for about 8 seconds. If you choose a quality product, iron-on name tags will not fall off in the wash. Now you can even get color iron on name tags. Sew on name tags are fine, Cash's is the traditional provider of sew on name tags, as long as you are happy to sew on everything.

This is committment phobia and having the milk without milking the cow. If after 6 years he wont committ and how dare he say it takes too much effort. Trying to loose 200 pounds takes alot of effort, being yourself and loving someone doesnt take much at all. Sounds like your relationship is onesided, that its his way or no way. This is up to you, 6 years is a long time to throw away but its also 6 years of wasted time because he wasnt thinking of the futures long haul. Its up to you if you want to remain in this relationship, he will keep going with the status quo and that's good for him but is that what you want? You have the right to be happy and have the things you want and need out of a relationship and a "man". Sit down and let him know that a stronger committment needs to be made on his part or you will consider moving on. See if he will start slow and become engaged and then within a years time marry. For me Camp Birchwood for boys is the worst and this comes from personal experience.

I got let go from Camp Birchwood for Boys for something I didn't do, such things involved me and another counsellor being accused of the same thing from a homesick camper and me being let go, while the other counsellor kept his job.

Camp Birchwood for Boys have ruined a lot of the experience for me. It is clear that the director of this camp has treated me unfairly here. I feel the most likely reason being that he saved $1,000+ on getting me gone but also seemed to have his problems with me at the end.

Also how this camp is bad for the campers includes such things as, the director would reuse busted and broken tents (such as being waterlogged) in which campers would have to sleep in and also old and close to breaking point equipment in which the campers, the children of the parents who pay for their children to be their have to use. Overall it is an unsafe environment for a child to be in. Also the main fun factor is missing here and that is the in camp songs (which the director will have none of), which from what I have heard is a main tradition among Summer Camps.

After the horrible accusation from this camp, it has ruined what would have been the best experience of my life, I'm now in debt and its looking likely that I will have to drop out of University.

So for me Camp Birchwood for Boys is definitely one of the Worst Summer Camps in America.

There is a good sleep away camp series for young girls called Summer Camp Secrets by Katy Grant. There are, to date, 6 books in the series.

Another series for young girls that they might like is Camp Confidential by Melissa J. Morgan. There are at least 20 books in the series.

I have read both series and I like both of them very much.

I attended a camp for the fine and performing arts as a kid, and I'm now the executive director after 35 summers at camp (yes, I really love it!). My co-director started as a camper when I was already a counselor, and this will be her 20th summer. My 8-year-old son will be attending for the first time in 2011. American Summer Camp inspires great love and loyalty, both to the friends you make there, and to the place itself. I highly recommend the experience!
