When do you use backwash filter closed recirculate and rinse on a pool pump?
Filter-Basically the "normal" setting for your pump. Circulates water from pool to filter and back out again. Backwash-Your filter forms thousand of cages in which suspended particles passing through are caught. When these cages become saturated with dirt the filter must be clean through backwash and the dirt sent out. The pressure gague gives an indication of the pressure accumulated in the filter. Rinse-After backwashing a "rinse" operation is recommended before the filtration mode is restarted to ensure that no dirty water is returned to the pool. Recirculation- In this option the water from the pump will return straight to the pool without going through the filter. Rinse cycle is used to create greater circulation when adding chemicals during periods. Closed-As the name suggests, this closes off the entry of water to the filter and is most normally used when access to the pump pre-filter basket is required. Remember to always stop the pump before changing between any of these positions.
The best thing to do is test a small amount of it on an unimportant area first to find out if it does any harm. Keep in mind that the fumes generated by pool chlorine are very strong and can be harmful to health in heavy concentrations.
What level should the pH be when shocking a swimming pool?
a swimming pool it should be neutral pH ie green
How much water will an 18 foot pool by 4 feet deep hold?
Have a calculator handy? pi x r squared x depth x 7.5 = capacity in gallons. 18' pool has a 9' radius Radius squared is 9x9 or 81. Multiply 81 by pi (3.14)= 254.34. This is the square footage of the pools surface. Also good to know if you want to add a heater or some chemicals that require surface area numbers. The surface area times the depth gets you the cubic feet capacity of the pool, again sometimes good to know. So, 254 x 4' deep = 1,016 cubic feet. There are 7.5 gallons of water in a cubic foot. 1,016 x 7.5 = 7,620 gallons
How do you get rid of mustard mold all over your pool walls if chlorine and baquacil do not work?
To get rid of mustard algae in a Chlorine pool, shock is not the only componet to eliminate it. A copper-based algaecide must be used. To get rid of mustard algae in a Baquacil pool, the best route to go would be Flocculant and then chemically cleaning the filter where it traps itself.
If you use a copper algaecide, be sure to use a chellating agent like Natural Chemistry's MetalFree afterwards. Another alternative is to use Yellow Out, which works with chlorine shock to kill mustard algae without scrubbing.
What is the best type of plaster to refinish a Gunite pool?
there is a product called "pebble tec" that is great. better than both products you mentioned. it is a little more expensive, but looks and lasts much better. other wise i would stay with plaster. from what i understand it adhears better to the gunite.
The "Rinse" will also take water out, but you should really have a waste setting. Call a local pool company or the maker of your filter system.
How do you repair the valve on the inflatable ring on the top of an above ground pool?
I found a leak by inflating it and spraying a heavy liguid soap and water mix and watching for bubbles and movement. Sad thing is I didn't find all the leaks which brought me here. I would also like some 'miracle fluid' :) to fill it with to stop the leaks. Still looking. -Dave
Home remedies for green hair from swimming pool?
Some mix aspirin and water together and allow to dissolve. Then add to hair, wait 20 min and rinse. Follow with shampooing and conditioning. Others have said to use tomato juice, leave in for 5 min and rinse I used regular shampoo with baking soda mixed in, add to DRY hair....it helped a lot!
How many hours of sun per day do swimming pool solar panels need?
That depends on how clean your water is now. Most people run their filter around about 8 hours, however if your water is satisfactorily clean and you are having no particular trouble maintaining free chlorine levels you may be able to reduce it. If you have a salt water pool there is a minimum amount of time that the pool needs to be run in order to produce enough chlorine this depends on the size chlorinator an or pool.
How long to heat up a 330 gallon Jacuzzi initially?
My jacuzzi is about the same size and takes about 1.5 hours to rise from 60 dregrees to 98 degrees. My heater is a Purex Triton Minmax 250. I don't know if this is typical.
Can you use household bleach to chlorinate and shock swimming pools?
Because bleach is only 5% sodium hyptochlorite, while the chlorine you buy at the pool store is about 96%.
well household bleach is 3 to 6% sodium hypochlorite, The pool stuff is 10.5 to 13% sodium hypochlorite so you would need to use much more. When shocking you need to raise your current chlorine level up by 10 times any less and you are wasting chemical and your time, Just don't use the cented kind it will create to many phosphates and cost even more in the long run.
Compare the entire label of each container. Minor change or addition to 1st answer. the 96% chlor is going to be granular and the percentage is more like 98%. It will also have conditioner in it. To compare apples to apples the liquid pool store chlor is 12.5% as opposed to 5%. Now, which do you think is going to do a better job? Household bleach has 95 % inert ingredients in it among other things that you probably do not want in your pool.
5% = more trips to the store, larger quantities or volumn used to accomplish job. Comes in throwaway bottles and cardboard containers that may leak in transit and that have to be rinsed and/or sent to the dump or recycled. Hard to pour - they glug, glug, glug. Takes longer to work. Probably not at the required 5% when finally sold to you because it sat on the dock at the back of the store for hours in the sunlight in clear bottles. Degrades fast.
12.5% = Pay a deposit but it can be refunded. Comes in a protective plastic bin or case that can contain a leak should one occur. Bottles are refillable and pour directly to the pool WITHOUT THE GLUG, GLUG, GLUG. Easy to pour. Less time to work. Degrades slower.

ANSWER 3
You CAN use liquid chlorine bleach to shock the pool. It is generally 5.25% sodium hypochlorite whereas the pool store liquid chlorine is about 10 to 12% sodium hypochlorite. You'll just need to use roughly twice as much. To get 5 ppm rise in a 20,000 gallon pool, you will need about 1 gallon of liquid chlorine from the pool store and that would be like 2 gallons of liquid chlorine bleach from the grocery. Liquid bleach at the store generally comes in opaque white plastic bottles that prevent light from passing through. Don't use scented bleach as it will just contaminate your pool with fragrances which include a variety of chemicals that you just don't need. Read the label. Best to buy one that is unscented and has the % sodium hypchlorite listed. I just bought 10 gallons of cheap store brand stuff that is unscented and states on the label that it is 5.25% sodium hypochlorite. I saved 50% of my money this way, but I do have more jugs to handle. I consider it worth it.
SAFETY FIRST!!! Whether using pool store liquid chlorine or grocery store bleach or any other chemicals, always remember safety first in handling any chemicals.--Use proper protective gear, handle carefully, don't mix chemicals, be serious and not playful, take care not to splash. Follow label directions or material safety data sheets. Never mix chlorine and non-chlorine bleach or other chemicals. Poisonous gas may result.
Why does my pool cleaner hose tangle?
Some times they get what is known as shape memory in them, the way to fix this is to lay the hose out in a straight line and fill it with hot water, leave it for a while let the water out wait till it has cooled and your problem should have magical disappeared.
How do you bring the chlorine level down in a pool?
If you are not in a great hury wait and the chlorine will disipate of its own accord in a day or 2 do not put on a pool cover.
Use a chlorine reducing agent. They are usually called "After Shock" or something similar. These chemicals are available at your local pool supply store and are usually based on some formulation of sodium thiosulfate.
There is a Materials safety data sheet for sodium thisulfate in the links below.
How many gallons are in a pool 24ft x4.4ft?
Cannot be answered with only these measurements. You need to specify what shape the pool is. Also, for a rectangular pool, the length, width and depth are needed. For a round pool, the diameter and depth are needed.
Description of an indoor swimming pool?
Similar to in ground but enclosed. many use a vinyl tent like structure vs conventional mat'ls since moisture in the air damaging to longevity.
If you have too much cynaruic acid do you need to drain the pool?
I usually tell my customers to watch the pool, keep the chemicals balanced, and if it stays clear, then the chlorine is not being blocked out by the stabilizer. If it turns green and the chlorine level is normal, then the chlorine is being blocked out, and the pool needs a couple of feet of water drained off. Whatevever you do, don't use any more chlorine tablets until the stabilizer is back to normal, only use liquid or granular chlorine. The tablets put stabilizer into the water and should not be used during the winter to prevent the stabiler level from becoming too high.
Yes you must drain part of your pool when the cyanuric acid exceeds 100 ppm. Almost every health department in the nation abides by this. However, this is depated in the pool industry, even amongst my own employees. It is thought that the cyanuric acid molecule locks up the chlorine molecule when you exceed 100 ppm. Thus, you have a greater chance of the pool clouding, bacteria/virus build up etc.
To get your Cyanuric Acid (CYA) level down to the recommended ideal of 40 ppm from your 100 ppm, you would have to drain 60% of your pool water and refill with tap water (which has no CYA). Be careful about draining your pool since doing so in areas with a high water table can damge your pool. Instead, you can do "continuous" draining where you simultaneously drain (with a pump or spillover) and fill your pool (filling from one end and draining from the other, all with the pump running for decent mixing). This will take longer and use more water, however (about 150% of your pool volume).
One thing that most pool companies won't tell you is how much CYA you add to your pool by using Tri-Chlor tablets or Di-Chlor granules. One 3" tablet of Tri-Chlor provides around 2.5 ppm of chlorine, but also 2 ppm of CYA. The same amount of chlorine is provided by around 13 oz. (weight) of Di-Chlor, but this adds 3 ppm of CYA or 1.5 times as much as with Tri-Chlor. With chlorine demand of around 0.5 per day, you can easily see how you can build up an excess of CYA (about 12 ppm per month) over just one summer!
If you use a DE filter that requires regular backwashing or if you have a lot of splash out, then you will always be diluting your CYA and might prevent too much build up, but if you use a cartridge (fiber) filter and don't backwash, then you will build up too much CYA.
I had this same problem and am using winter rains to help dilute my pool and have switched to using liquid chlorine. This sure is a good argument for using a salt pool or liquid chlorine instead of Tri-Chlor!
1 lb per 10 to 12 sq ft of filter surface.
1 lb of DE is approximately the same volume as 1 lb of coffee.
1 lb coffee can = 1 lb DE.
