Cleaning an algae infested pool is not hard. Three steps:1. Kill the algae. Lots of chlorine and algaecide. Be patient, takes about a week to turn green (live) algae to grey (dead) algae.2.Get the hiding spots: scrape the pool sides with a wire brush. Leslies sells one that fits on the skimmer pole. Be sure to brush around lights.3. Catch the buggars. this is the hard part. Algae cells are 7 microns across. The average cartridge has 20 micron holes, so the algae washes through. Many sites recommend draining the pool or vacuuming the pool bottom to waste. There is a much better way:Buy a big bag of Fiber Clear at the pool store. This is a powder that fills the small holes in a cartridge filter. With the filter running, add a handful at a time into the skimmer. Tales a while to add a bag, but if you add it all at once it doesn't distribute evenly across the filter.Now run the filter 24 hours. Voila, the algae are trapped and pool water is once again clean

Chlorine is a gas at room temperature. It can be purchased in cylinders for the swimming pool industry. From there it depends on what you call expensive. You can't just go down to the local store and buy it. Solid chlorine would need to be stored at below -34oC . This would be expensive.

Always wait a few days to recheck your salt level or run the pump 24 hours to accelerate the process.

It depends on the ground freeze. If the ground is already frozen excavation would be difficult to near impossible. Concrete however can have curing agents added to it to allow for the temp and be covered with concrete blankets until fully cured. I live in Colorado and started our pool in late october. No problem until it was time to backfill and the piles of dirt froze. You don't want frozen backfill that can't be properly compacted or you'll get settling around the pool later. If this a good contractor and pool is a vinyl lined style, it should take no more than 2 weeks to complete. If your weather window is that big go for it.

If the pool is rectangular in shape then the formula is:

length X width x average depth x 7.5.

If the pool is circular then the formula is:

3.14 x 3.14 x pool radius (1/2 pool diameter) x average depth x 7.5.

If the pool has a shape other than these then it is a little more difficult.

For round pools you want the area of the circle x the height, or 3.14 x radius x radius x height, then convert feet to gallons by x 7.5.

I had this problem. Brown and black widow spiders nesting in just about every single corner of the pool screenhouse. Spiders, eggs, everything. It was really a problem. I was scared to go out by my pool. Get your garden hose with a good high pressure nozzle on it. Hop into the pool so you are safe from the spiders and go around hosing them to death, LOL. Hose them really hard and make sure they are dead, hosing away their eggs and everything. You'll have to keep doing this basically on a daily basis to keep up with it, but eventually they will all be gone.

Also be sure to eliminate the insects they like to feed on so they avoid your pool area all together.

Since imperial gallons are no longer in use, I assume that you mean US gallons. 20 x 40 x 5 gives 4,000 cubic feet. 8.33 gallons per cubit foot will give 33,333 us gallons.

The rate at which your pool evaporates depends on a combination of the temperature the wind and relative humidity Tis can be between 12 to 25 mm per day. If you feel that you may have a leak some where The thing to do is put water in a water bucket then Mark the water level on it. put a discreet mark on the pools water level and leave it for between 1 and 2 weeks. if the water level of the pool has gone down considerably more than the level in the bucket you probably have a leak somewhere.

PS if you can hang the bucket in the pool to keep it at the same temperature all the better
