How do you clean algae from a in ground pool?

Cleaning an algae infested pool is not hard. Three steps:1. Kill the algae. Lots of chlorine and algaecide. Be patient, takes about a week to turn green (live) algae to grey (dead) algae.2.Get the hiding spots: scrape the pool sides with a wire brush. Leslies sells one that fits on the skimmer pole. Be sure to brush around lights.3. Catch the buggars. this is the hard part. Algae cells are 7 microns across. The average cartridge has 20 micron holes, so the algae washes through. Many sites recommend draining the pool or vacuuming the pool bottom to waste. There is a much better way:Buy a big bag of Fiber Clear at the pool store. This is a powder that fills the small holes in a cartridge filter. With the filter running, add a handful at a time into the skimmer. Tales a while to add a bag, but if you add it all at once it doesn't distribute evenly across the filter. Now run the filter 24 hours. Voila, the algae are trapped and pool water is once again clean

Do you add salt to a salt water pool by just dumping it in the pool?

Yes you do. Every manufacturer will give you different instructions on how to do it. The most accepted method is to add the salt at the shallow end of your pool, then brush it around while the salt system is off, the pump must stay on however. Always wait a few days to recheck your salt level or run the pump 24 hours to accelerate the process.

Probably not. Conditioner should have been added at startup. You can test for "CYA" to find out how much conditioner is currently in your water and add more if necessary.

Can a salt water pool be used in winter?

It depends on the ground freeze. If the ground is already frozen excavation would be difficult to near impossible. Concrete however can have curing agents added to it to allow for the temp and be covered with concrete blankets until fully cured. I live in Colorado and started our pool in late october. No problem until it was time to backfill and the piles of dirt froze. You don't want frozen backfill that can't be properly compacted or you'll get settling around the pool later. If this a good contractor and pool is a vinyl lined style, it should take no more than 2 weeks to complete. If your weather window is that big go for it.

What happens if you drink chlorine?

I erroneously smelled chlorine tablets the other day when I opened a container that had no label. The fumes gave me a tremendous headache and caused me to get lightheaded. You would treat your symptoms as you would if you inhaled any other type of toxin.

How do you lower total alkalinity and pH in swimming pool?

To lower the alkalinity in a pool you can use PH Minus or Muriatic acid. When adding pour into one spot in the deep end of the pool away from circulation, make sure the circulation system is running. Do not apply near metal fittings or near the pool skimmer. Also make sure you follow directions when using the product.

Additionally, there are no directions on a bottle of Muriatic Acid. Use muriatic acid no more than a quart at a time; testing about 20 min. intervals until goal is achieved 80 to 120 ppm. The acid is aggressive but not as bad as Sulfuric Acid ( battery acid) so also be careful where you set the bottle. Even if there is no signs of acid dribbling off the bottom of the bottle it willleave a ring.

Your pH is the opposite side of the same coin with alkalinity.

To raise it use Sodium Bicarb. With the pump motor off and water motionless, add the bicarb in the deep-end of the pool, in one spot.

Let it sit for 4 hours or more. Turn the pump on and allow to circulate for 2-3 hours, then re-test. alkalinity is 80-100ppm, not up to 120ppm.

To lower alkalinity, do the same, just use acid. The chart your need in provided in the link below.

A circular backyard swimming pool is 21 yards around the outside a bout how wide is the pool at its widest point?

About 20 feet.

In a circle, the widest point will be its diameter.

The distance round the circle is called its circumference (21 yards for your pool), and that is the diameter multiplied by pi. So the diameter is the circumference divided by pi. Pi is a never-ending number, but we'll use the short version of 3.142.

So the diameter of your pool is 21 yards divided by 3.142, or 63 feet / 3.142 = 20.05 ft.

I think we can safely ignore the 0.05 feet (just over half an inch).

How can you know the volume of water in a swimming pool with rectangular shape?

If the pool is rectangular in shape then the formula is:

length X width x average depth x 7.5.

If the pool is circular then the formula is:

3.14 x 3.14 x pool radius (1/2 pool diameter) x average depth x 7.5.

If the pool has a shape other than these then it is a little more difficult.

For round pools you want the area of the circle x the height, or 3.14 x radius x radius x height, then convert feet to gallons by x 7.5.

A 24 foot by 4 feet deep pool holds 13,564 gallons.

How do you get rid of spiders nesting inside a screened in pool?

I had this problem. Brown and black widow spiders nesting in just about every single corner of the pool screenhouse. Spiders, eggs, everything. It was really a problem. I was scared to go out by my pool. Get your garden hose with a good high pressure nozzle on it. Hop into the pool so you are safe from the spiders and go around hosing them to death, LOL. Hose them really hard and make sure they are dead, hosing away their eggs and everything. You'll have to keep doing this basically on a daily basis to keep up with it, but eventually they will all be gone.

Also be sure to eliminate the insects they like to feed on so they avoid your pool area all together.

Does Water from swimming pool evaporate at a faster rate on cool nights?

The rate at which your pool evaporates depends on a combination of the temperature the wind and relative humidity Tis can be between 12 to 25 mm per day. If you feel that you may have a leak some where The thing to do is put water in a water bucket then Mark the water level on it. put a discreet mark on the pools water level and leave it for between 1 and 2 weeks. if the water level of the pool has gone down considerably more than the level in the bucket you probably have a leak somewhere.

PS if you can hang the bucket in the pool to keep it at the same temperature all the better
