Can you go into a hot tub when you are on your period?

No, wait until your period has finished for at least 2 days. Otherwise, there would be blood in the hot tub, especially because heat/warmth makes bleeding heavier.

*NOTE: It is not okay to contaminate water in a hot tub with your blood (or urine). The components of blood, urine, or feces is not broken down or flushed away in water that is contained in a hot tub.

Are ducks affected by chlorine in a swimming pool?

No, but if they swim in your pool a lot, the duck poop is going to make the water murky.

Ducks and swimming pools are not a good combination. Pool sanitisers such as chlorine have no ill affect on the bird. Ducks like the pool environment as it is often a safe haven with clear water and unobtrusive surrounds.

The duck droppings do have a negative effect on the pool water balance and will eventually clog the filter with the creamy white paste.

How can you patch marcite pool finish?

I've had to do several small patch jobs (8" x 8") due to rebar ties rusting through. I called several pool builders for 1.) advice on how to do the repair and 2.) materials. One local builder had some extra and filled a baggie for me. Getting ready for my fourth repair this morning. -Rick

Answer: I admit I'm not familiar with marcite. However, in regards to the rebar rust spots. Simply filling them in will allow them to return within a few months. Ideally, you'll need to cut down an inch or so, and use a grinder to grind down the long rebar/rebar tie. Then use a plaster patch. All other products to "cover" rebar rust spots are only temporary, and failure to eliminate the source of the rust will allow it to return soon.

Is a fiberglass pool better than an in-ground pool with a liner?

We had a fiberglass pool installed 3 years ago. We are very disappointed. We live in suburban Philadelphia. Last winter our fiberglass pool "popped" out of the ground. It was full of water and the deep end popped up, lifting the concrete and all. Now there is pressure on the sides causing the sides to bow inward. What is most distressing about our situation is that NOBODY will help us. We contacted the installer only to be frustrated with broken appointments and NO SERVICE. We contacted the manufacturer (we now have cracks and chips from the pressure, which should be covered under our warranty)only to be told, that they are much too busy. We contacted other installers only to be told they also, are too busy making money "hand over fist" to be bothered with our problem. So, if you are considering a fiberglass pool in the Northeast area, I would strongly research your installer for response to service, consider the type of soil you have and definitely have a form of a french drainage system installed.

Is it okay to install an above ground pool partially inground?

Yes, although it voids any factory warranty that came with it. I bought a 12x24 above grond pool, 4 feet deep. I used a backhoe to dig & a transit to level the hole. I buried it to 3 ft. Built a deck all around it & it's been in the ground 10 years now. No problems the only caution is when the pool is filled with water, be very careful when back filling the dirt around the walls. I did it with a Bobcat & almost caved in & destroyed the enitre job. Other than that, no problems

Is a dog swimming in your pool OK for your pool?

A1

Yes as long as it doesn't have any infections, such as fleas, etc. But it should be fine ---- A2

I agree with A1. The dog shouldn't have any infections, diseases, fleas, just as mentioned above. If it does, then the infections or fleas can be spread in the pool, which people will swim in, causing them to be ill. If the dog's fine, people can swim with it, too. If the dog is ill or has fleas, it should at least swim in the pool by itself, for human safety. Speaking of human safety, you should also refill the pool after the dog is done with it, just in case.

When do you add stabilizer to the pool?

Stabilizer is used to protect Chlorine from the UV rays of the sun. If chlorine is not protected from the sun, all the shock you added yesterday will be gone by lunchtime today. A normal stabizer level is around 40ppm (parts per million) if you get above 100 ppm your pool water can lock up and chemicals will become inactive. Also note: if your level becomes too high the only way to lower it is to exchange water in the pool. If you use a stabilized chlorine, it will, over time increase your stabilizer level in the pool. So be careful not to over stabilize. It is better to error on the side of under stabilize the to over stabilize. Stabilizer is also known as Cyanuric Acid

How do you repair leaks in the stair strip seals of a vinyl-lined pool if it's a new liner?

How do you catch people peeing in a pool?

The answer is simply NO ... No such chemical exists.

There are chemicals called pH indicators (the pH scale measures the strength of bases and acids) and the indicators change color depending on their environment. One such acid/base indicator is called bromothymyl blue or BTB for short. BTB in a neutral or base pH environment is the color of blue you saw in the movie. However, when BTB is in an acid environment it turns the color of URINE! Plus, BTB is the only acid/base indicator that is at any time blue.

Then, consider that urine is acidic so, it wouldn't even turn the BTB blue. Instead, the BTB would turn yellow if someone peed in the pool.

Finally, when you are active in a pool you sweat like crazy but, the water in the pool washes off the sweat. Then, consider that sweat and urine are both liquids that are filtered out of your blood and are chemically almost identical. They both remove metabolic wastes from your blood and they have the same amounts of acid and other substances in them. PLUS, since they come directly from your blood and your blood is sterile, urine and sweat (when they first come out) are also sterile. However, they are great places (due to the metabolic wastes they carry) for bacteria to quickly grow. So, they put chlorine in the water as a sanitizer that kills bacteria.

So, as gross as it may be, peeing in the pool does nothing negative toward your health. However, it does combine with other substances to make a chemical called "chloramine" which must be also dealt with which costs money. However, chloramines develop from both pee and sweat so they are normally in every pool.

Why did my pool water turn brown when I turned on my salt water chlorine generator?

It's doubtful that the problem is related to the salt or the chlorine generator, assuming that the pool was a chlorine pool before the installation of the system. If it was a Biguanide pool, that might explain it but generally the reaction is grey and cloudy, not brown. If the pool was turned off for an extended period of time, it is more likely that something came out of the filter and plumbing. You can email with a better description as to pool type, how old, what you were using before the salt system, and how long the pool was down, etc. for a more complete answer. info@thepoolandspawarehouse.com
