Who is Alvaro Pineda?

Alvaro was a famous jockey who was born in Mexico on a dirt floor. He came to California at about the age of 15 to race horses. This may not be in the fact book but his favorite race track was Santa Anita which was also the race track where he met his wife Donna. Unfortunately it is also where he died in the gates when his horse, Austin Mittler, reared up unexpectedly on January 18th 1975. He was well respected by other jockeys and was known for never swearing no matter how angry. His younger brother Roberto died two years later in a similar accident at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore Maryland. He is survived by his wife Donna, Son Matthew (President of Castle and Cooke), and daughter Charlene (Successful actress and producer).
