Can dust mites hurt you in any way?

Not directly as they do not bite. They are not predatory and do not live on humans. They themselves are relatively harmless feeding on our skin. However their parts and especially their excrement is a potent allergen and can be very harmful to those with allergies to house dust. Hence indirectly I suppose they are harmful and can hurt us.

How do you keep ticks out of your house?

The only way to be rid of ticks in your house is to follow these steps. Keep in mind that ticks can live up to a year with no blood supply. They hide in crevices in base boards and walls. If they are allowed to feed, the cycle starts all over as they will lay new eggs. It will take close to 2 years to rid your house of ticks if you are diligent. If you have pets, you will have to enclose your pet to a restricted area outdoors. You can buy cheap fencing and using stakes, wall off an area of yard from the door to the fence. Keep this area mowed very short and treat the area and fence weekly using Brothers tick solution using a sprayer. You can buy this at Home Depot. Do not buy commercial products as they are expensive and not necessary. If you use a pest professional, you will still have to treat weekly for a year and this is very costly. In home, remove all carpets. You do not have to get rid of them but you will have to store them in a place where they are not close to a blood supply source. Spray baseboards and corners weekly using Brothers tick solution and sprayer. Dusting with Seven Dust does not work! Vacuum daily and replace bag after vacuuming. This is daunting but very necessary. Finally, treat your pet with regular baths, combing and tick prevention medicine. Petcor flea spray also works great. Getting ticks is time consuming, frustrating and costly. Don't be deterred.
You can buy sprays like RANZ or others, that can keep your place free of ticks for approximately 4-6 months.

What does a flea bite look like?

This is a difficult question to answer because each individual is different and so is the way they react to a BedBug bite. When a BedBug begins to feed on you it's saliva contains a couple of chemicals. One is an antistetic that masks your pain so you don't wake up when it inserts it's feeding tube. The other is an anticoagulant which makes your blood flow more freely. How you individually react to those two chemicals is what makes the difference.

Some people are not allergic to those chemicals while for others the reaction can be severe. Generally for everyone in between you will see small red bumps, sometimes two or three all in a row. They will itch but please do not scratch them. For others there may be a combination of blotches and bumps. As I said it is different for each individual.

To be sure if it is a Bedbug bite or something else you need to look for the other signs of BedBugs: small blood spots on your bedding; dark spots that are BedBug fecal material; BedBugs or their eggs in the seams of your mattress and box springs. If you don't find those signs in your bedding then look in the area surrounding your bed. BedBugs may hide in cracks and crevices almost anywhere. As a generalization BedBugs can hide up to about twenty feet away from their prey which is you while you sleep.

How should ticks be removed from the skin?

There are many different ways to remove a tick and oil is one of them, but it isn't the best way to do it. You can either take your dog to a vet and have them take the tick out, or take a pair of tweezers (this is a two man job) one holding the dog as still as possible, and gently put the tweezers around the body of the tick and slowly pull straight out (DO NOT GO COUNTER-CLOCKWISE!) Be sure the head of the tick is still intact and if not then you will have to take your dog directly to the vets. Dogs generally get ticks around their nose area, top of the head and behind the ears, but it's mostly around the nose area. When my husband and I go camping where there are trees and bushes we not only brush our own hair and check each other out for ticks, but we do the same for our dogs and cat. DO NOT pull the tick straight out with tweezers! By grasping a tick with tweezers you can cause infected fluids to be pushed into your pet resulting in possible illness such as weils. You can take the dog to the vet and they'll remove it for you but you can also get really good tick picks from vets or pet shops which allow you to remove the tick yourself. Also dogs can get ticks anywhere on their body, mine is particularly prone to getting them in her armpits.
