Why shouldn't corporal punishment be re-introduced?
it is a cruel was to punish :(
In the USA Corporal punishment of criminals/prisoners was absolutely banned by the US government as being cruel and unusual punishment.....so if this punishment is to cruel to be used on rapist, murderers, car thieves, spousal abusers, drug dealers, pedophiles and serial killers then therefor it should not be used on children and teenagers.....
Inflicting physical pain as a punishment for wrong behavior has its limits especially with children and teenagers because as their tolerance for pain increases the effectiveness of the punishment begins to reduce and then reaches a point where the child/teen thinks nothing of the brief moment of pain that passes in a few minutes and commits the wrong acts without any real concern...
There are other more effective ways of punishment than physical pain....
Corporal punishment is not a deterant to wrong behavior...
A common example would be:: Billy does something wrong on Friday and his parents give him 4 wacks with a paddle causing him 5 minutes of pain, and on Saturday Billy is out to play and have fun with his friends all day long...eventually Billy would learn to deal with the brief moment of pain knowing that the next day he would be out doing what he normally does.....
A more effective form of punishment would be ::billy did something wrong on Friday so he is not allowed out to play the entire weekend, nor have any TV or video/PC games or friends over....This form of punishment lasts much longer than the 5 minutes of pain and Billy would not be so quick to commit that wrong act again and have his enjoyments taken away from him...
There are always other methods of effective discipline besides physical pain..

A Brigader General is a one star; it is the normal rank for commanding a Division, or a Brigade if deployed without a Division. Generals, Colonels, Majors, and Captains FAR OUTNUMBER command slots. So ALL officers have to spend time in Staff Positions. Command (time) is a privilege. Example (for a typical Vietnam War US Army Battalion): An Armor Battalion (Tank Battalion) will have; ONE Battalion Commander (LTC), and FOUR or FIVE Company Commanders (CPT's). But will have at least 7 staff officers plus 5 Lieutenants in each of the letter companies (line companies); that's approximately 32 additional officers that are NOT commanders.

America's generals love to brag about their all-volunteer Army. That's because they tend to overlook Jeffrey Mellinger. Nearly 37 years later, he's still wearing Army green. Mellinger is, by all accounts, the last active-duty draftee serving in the U.S. Army.

Who was the commander of the regular army at the Alamo?
Lieutenant Colonel William Barret Travis of the Legion of Cavalry of the Texas Army was in command of the regulars of the Texas Army in the Alamo. There were only 18 regulars, who arrived with Travis a little over a month before the siege. Jim Bowie (famous for the Bowie knife) was already there, with a larger group of volunteers. Bowie was far more popular with the men, as a hero of the rough and tumble frontier life, while Travis, a lawyer, tried to be a stickler for regulations and discipline. The two reached a compromise: Bowie would command the far more numerous volunteers, and Travis would command his regulars. Davy Crockett was also there and a leadership role was urged on him, but he declined any rank greater than "high private". Bowie was a sick man and as his health declined their compromise mattered little and Travis was in effective command of all. (Bowie died in his bed, after emptying his pistols into the first Mexicans who burst into his sickroom at the climax of the siege).
