I am a American Veteran from the Vietnam war , I am disabled from my job of 31 yrs working on the docks. I had to retire from my job as a mechanic because of 7 bad disc in my neck and back. I got discharged in 1971 from the Marines (Honorable ) . I bought a home for my son co-sign last year and just now found out there is a Melaruse owed on the house . It was never disclosed to me in the loan docks at all , I bought the house PI & TI . My house payment went up $ 600.00 more a month. Am I exempt from paying the Melaruse on this house .

The nation as a whole has done very little to repair the damage done to Vietnam Vets. However, there has been some events that have made a big difference in the attitude of the nation towards the vets. For example, in the 80s, there were a few parades sponsored by big cities, the largest being the New York City ticker tape parade in 1985 and the Chicago Welcome Home parade in 1986. These parades opened the door for the American people to say thank you to the veterans who had fought and died in Vietnam without raising the spectre of any wrong doing by our government or military.

Therefore, the veteran was allowed to feel appreciated for the first time since he arrived home from Vietnam and this went a long way to healing invisible wounds inflicted by the nation during the war.

It was these feelings toward the veteran that created the whole new approach to the returning veteran and as early as 1991 with the Welcome Home parade to the Gulf War veterans, the nation began to separate the warrior from the government's actions. They showed their support more readily to the returning veteran. This continues today with many groups sponsoring welcome home committees to greet returning veterans from Iraq.

Military cemeteries were under the jurisdiction of the US Army until 1973. After that year, the VA took control. Mr. Vinson retired from political service in 1965.

Nearly no one, nor any agency keeps payroll records for that long. Unless the receiver of the payment from '69 has some paper trail on it (indicating a payment was made) other ideas will have to be thought of.

The return of US personnel from the war coincided with the end of the military draft, the general US popluation was VERY RELIEVED!

The draftee in Vietnam, for the most part, didn't want to be in the military, didn't want to be in Vietnam, and certainly didn't want to become permanently disabled or killed. He just did what his country (US Government/US Army) told him he had to do, and he did the best that he could, until his two years in the Army was completed.

The purpose of Veterans Day is to honor men and women who have been injured or served in the United States armed Servces.

Absolutely not unless they served in the military. No, simply because a police officer may on occasion encounter a violent situation, it does not make them a military veteran. When the going gets tough the police can quit where as the military person must go on and do their best under the worst of conditions. The military is not represented by a union. Military spend time away from their loved ones. Military sacrafice a normal life. I realize many police consider themselves para-military but they are simply.....police. Not members of the military. If police with no military service want to be called vets or want to join vetrans organizations or be honored a veterans........join the military.
