Since Purple Heart recipients are now eligible for VA medical care, go to any VA Hospital and ask for the Service Officers. These are veterans' advocates employed by the DAV, VFW, AMVETS, American Legion, etc. to help vets get their awards and to help with claims. They can assist in obtaining a copy of your purple heart award orders, as well as all other award records.

no there are only a few countries that still celebrate veterans day...a few of them are france, britain , austraila, and canada. and they all celebrate it in their own ways. some with speeches and parades and some by going to the graveyard and throwing flowers upon the fallen soldiers graves. there are many ways to celebrate it though that some may not have thought of. one other way is to invite a bunch of family and friends over and have a barbeque which is a tradition of some families here in the usa

As a loadmaster on C-130 and C-141's I remember at least one specific flight on the C-141 where we carried bodies from Viet nam to Travis AFB -they were in body shipping containers (kinda like coffins) and by protocol I had to stay in the back with them the whole flight and the heads had to be toward the front of the plane---This was about 1970.... don't know if this helps............

During the 20th century, the educational portion was only good for one program (college or trade school); after completion of one or the other, to attend one more, the vet had to receive school counselling before approval. After that second school was completed...that was it, no more education at Uncle Sam's expense. That was 20th century; could be different 21st century.

Is there a military discharge as general -other than honorable conditions?
There are actually seven different types of discharge characterization:
Uncharacterized - For entry level separations where the member has served less than 180 days when notifed of administrative separation. This can be recieved for a variety of different reasons. With respect to non-service related matters such as VA benefits, civilian employment etc, shall be considered as the equivilent of an Honorable or General (Under Honorable Conditions)
Honorable - an Honorable discharge is warranted when the quality of a member's service has met the standards of accepted conduct and performance of duty for military personnel.
General under honorable conditions - is appropriate if the member's service has been honest and faithful, but significant negative aspects of the member's conduct or performance outweighs positive aspects of the member's military record.
Under Other Than Honorable Conditions (OTH) - is warranted when a member engages in conduct involving one or more acts or omissions that constitute a significant departure from the conduct expected of members of the armed forces.
Bad Conduct - Is assigned as part of the sentence at Special or General court-martial.
Dishonorable - The least favorable characterization. Recieved as part of the sentence at General court-martial.
Dismissal - Equivilent to a Dishonorable, but reserved for commissioned officers. Recieved as part of the sentence at General court-martial.
