How can you be a good fisherman?

Quietly watch an angler for a hour or so. be polite to him/her and ask him/her for any tips that may help you to understand a bit more about your new hobby. Understanding the habits of the species of fish that you are trying to catch will help you enormously and most of all you must try and be as QUIET as possible because if the fish sense that you are there, they often wont bite any bait and may even move a way from the area completely.

that is a great answer but i thought i better add onto it as my grandfather is a great fisherman and gave me alot of tips. here's a few:

  • well, you will need to bring the fish up quite quickly, especially if it's a leather jacket as they have wide mouths and can open the mouths up and let the hook go.so, it is best if you pull your rod or hand rod up as far as possible while winding up the reel.
  • also, you can research best places for fishing as this is quite crucial as well if you plan on getting a whopper though you will need a boast for this.
  • get some good bait. for example if you plan on catching squid then try very realistic looking fish and jig it back and back to make it look like it's swimming is a good idea in some circumstances.
  • you can get dead real fish if you wish though oncee you catch the bigger fish then there goes your bait.

hope these simple ideas helped.

Where did vikings get nails to build a long ship?

Nodules of iron ore form under the surface of bog vegetation due to the action of bacteria. Scandinavia, Iceland, Greenland and the site in Canada where vikings lived all had bog iron. The vikings would make charcoal, preferably out of hardwoods (presumably birch in the far north where none other hardwoods grew). They would use that to smelt the iron ore into bloom iron and then hammer that into wrought iron nails and washers for their ships. They could also 'sew' the planks together using spruce roots.

Who discovered the Vikings?

The Vikings were never discovered. The Viking age started on June 8, 793 CE when Norsemen destroyed the abbey on Lindisfarne in England. Bear in mind, that not every Norsemen during the Viking age was a Viking. A Viking was a trader/raider. They would set sail with trade goods, and go to various trading outposts. Should they come across an easy target, a small village or some sort, they would raid it of anything valuable (weapons, gold, pottery, furs, etc). They would then trade those goods for something more valuable (to them). For example, it was common for Norwegians to go aviking to Iceland with lumber (since the Icelanders had eradicated the forests when they first landed), and trade it for seal pelts, whale fat, and walrus ivory.
