Ideas for a 1920 themed wedding shower?

  • Since you have chosen a 1920's theme for a wedding shower then you should have the guests come dressed in 1920's costumes. There were 'flappers' (the wild girls of the 20's); to the more demure 1920's girl next door who wore high laced necklines and long skirted dresses (that hung from the hip) with shoe that had a heal on it and buttons. Cradles were used during those times for babies. You could borrow a cradle to put the gifts in or rent one. Foods to be served from the 1920's would be small sandwiches and cakes along with tea (but coffee is acceptable also or alcoholic beverages.) On the table should be a lace tablecloth (can be rented) with dainty tea cups and of course plates. Rent or find a very ornate high fluted vase and put a garden medley of flowers in it (can be roses.) Potted ferns were very popular during this era and you could rent silk potted ferns and place just around the area the bride-to-be will be seated. High backed chairs were in style during the 1920's or if you need too you can use a rocker. If you really want to have fun then try renting an antique car to pick up the bride-to-be along with her mother and perhaps her future mother-in-law. Be sure you have a camera ready and ask a friend to have a back-up camera and take pictures as well.

What is the difference between a bridal consultant and a wedding coordinator?

Bridal consultants discuss coordinating or arranging a wedding with the bride and groom. They help in the pre-wedding stages to come up with ideas and contact caterers, florists, etc. An independent bridal consultant is not associated with specific vendors such as a florist or a caterer, and instead operates a self-contained business.

Wedding coordinators assist with planning a schedule for the wedding, then help conduct and coordinate the wedding day activities. In the south, a wedding coordinator may be called a wedding director. A church wedding coordinator is usually a member or on the staff of a church and their job is to make sure church rules are followed

What is worn to a Jehovah's Witness wedding?

A JW funeral is considered a congregational meeting by JW's. So the dress that we wear to that is no different than any other meeting. We normally wear a suit and tie or dress shirt and tie, dresses or skirts, etc. Some may not own a tie, so a clean presses shirt will sometimes be seen at a meeting. Some, who are not JW's attend our funerals, just like there are non-Witnesses that attend other meetings, so there are those who come in casual attire. These ones are not looked down upon, in fact, generally most there will make special effort to make someone who is not dressed as we are, to extend even more consideration and hospitality to these ones, since it is obvious that they are not JW's. A JW funeral is not to appease the dead person, as it is in some religions, but it is to provide comfort for the friends and family. The important thing is to be there. Nobody will make you feel out of place.

What does a wedding garter symbolize?

Today, garters symbolize mystery and virginity, especially if it is blue, and well hidden under layers of crinoline!

There are two types of garters. One is a belt garter. The other type is one for each leg.

Years ago women wore garters to keep their stockings up (perhaps some still do!). So they don't really symbolize anything. But on the wedding night the bridegroom would have a nice surprise to find his bride wearing brightly colored leg garters, or just one, worn on a part of the leg that is not normally exposed to the general public! So this would be something special, just for him! (Her little secret!)

Garters are available in many different colors and styles. The particular color chosen can be interpreted as meaning something, but often the style/color selected is just a matter of personal preference.

  • Bachelors are gathered to wait for the groom to throw the bride's garter and whoever catches the garter will be the next one married.
  • The bride wears her garter approximately 2 inches above the knee. The reason she wears the garter is purely traditions ... near the end before the bride and groom go upstairs to change into other clothes before going away on their wedding night the bride will be seated on a chair (music ... generally stripping music) will be played and groom will kneel down; lift the bride's dress up a bit and take the garter off. Once the groom has the garter he will throw it towards the group of bachelors and the bachelor that catches the garter is suppose to be the next one married.

Is civil wedding much better than church wedding?

Sorry Charlie- or Charlotte. the Catholic Church requires , as they deem Matrimony a Sacrament- all Nuptial ceremonies must be performed in a Church, hence Church wedding. This is one of many protocols that is, in this case almost literally etched in stone- the stone of the Church columns and foundations. :Look at the hymn- the Church is one foundation, for example.

How much does a wedding coordinator earn a year?

It normally takes three years to establish a wedding consulting business, and five years to become profitable.

If you work on thirty weddings in a year at an average rate of $1,500 per wedding, you can expect to earn $45,000 in a year. If you work alone on a full-time basis, you can service about 40 weddings a year, providing nine man-days per wedding. To increase revenues, other wedding coordinators provide extra services such as printing invitations, selling accessories or renting tuxedos.

The wedding business is seasonal. The months of September, October, June and August are traditionally the busiest months. Winter months are slow; except if you are in a tropical country where December is also a busy wedding month.

What year did the wedding dress come about?

Until the late 19th century, American brides wore formal dresses during their weddings. Black was the color of choice. Queen Victoria popularized the wearing of white gowns in England, when she broke cultural norms and donned one at her wedding. At that time, white outfits were reserved for funerals and grieving. (They still are for Eastern cultures.) Some fashion historians say white represents purity and virginity but, by all accounts, wearing white first symbolized unabashed joy. Americans fell in love with white bridal gowns sometime during the early to mid 20th century.
