What is the reason for killing whales?

They shouldn't. The human race gains absolutely no benefit from killing whales.

Whales are killed for their bones, which is used to carve wares, and for their flesh, used in (mostly) Asian dishes.

Many whales are protected species, so killing them is a violation of the law. Unfortunately this does not stop people hunting them. The largest culprit of whaling is Japan. International pressure is forcing whaling countries to stop or gradually stop whaling practices. Recently, Iceland was rejected membership to the European Union purely because of its whaling operations. Europe does not want to be associated with such inhuman acts.

Some countries, such as Chile, actually have a portion of their navy patrolling the oceans which are habitats to protected whales, they are given permission to apprehend or engage any ship that attacks a whale.

Whale hunting is highly illegal.

How would you measure the length of a whale?

When did shamu die?

The original Shamu died in SeaWorld Flordia after 6 years in captivity after being taken violently from his pod with his mother (who died succumbing to the wounds of the harpoon used to catch her) at a young age.

I don't think anyone really knows what he died of but a lot of orcas do not do well once they have been taken from the wild, they are under a lot of stress as the environment is drastically different, they are potentially exposed to chemicals in the water and become more susceptible to infections and they need to adjust to a different diet. In a lot of cases, cause of death is still unknown or put down as 'stress' or 'stress related'. Apart from 'unknown' the most common cause of death in captivity is bacterial pneumonia and it is not unlikely that this is what the original Shamu died of as well.

Causes of death in some of SeaWorld's other Shamus in the last 10 years:

2008: Halyn (2.5): unknown/ not publicized

2007: Taku (14): unknown/ not publicized, probably infection as he was put on antibiotics prior to his death.

2005: Splash (15.5): complications with a tooth infection

2001: Bjossa (21): chronic lung infection

2001: Haida 2 (19) :brain abcess

1999: Katerina (10.5): infection of some sort

Why do the whales leave Alaska and Russia in the winter?

Whales leave the Arctic Ocean in the winter because there is no food and much of its surface freezes (whales need to breathe air and if the sea is covered in ice they will drown).

So whales migrate south to tropical waters. Hear there is no food, so they live off of their fat reserves. This is where they mate and where their calves are born. When winter is over, they head back north to find food and restock their fat reserves.

What is the worst country for whaling?

Many people believe that JAPAN hunts the most whales.

Do blue whale can eat seahorse?

Its favorite food is "Krill". An Adult blue whale can kill upto 40 million krill per day. They can eat nearly 3500 kilograms of krill in a single day. They need nearly 1.5 million kilocalories of energy per day and so, they nearly eat nonstop. Small fish, crustaceans and squids too get caught when they trap krill in their mouth.

They scoop up large quantities of water into their mouth along with krill and other small aquatic creatures and then filters and push the water out. All remaining animals are swallowed.

So, if a sea horse is stuck in the pool of water it sucks up, then Yes.

-Blue Whale, between 10,000 and 25,000 left

-Fin Whale, only 119,000 left

-Sperm Whale, only 360,000 left

-Right Whale, 450 North Atlantic Right Whale left, due to harsh whaling (it is named after whalers who called it the "right" whale to catch)
