It depends on your computer. If your RAM is at very high levels and certain programs aren't responding, installing such a program might be something you could consider. On the other hand, since these programs work by using the page file, which is slower than RAM, improper use of the software could slow your computer down. I would recommend instead buying more RAM, which is relatively cheap and makes a huge difference, especially on Windows XP, which is quite a fast operating system.

It should do but you should first find out if there are drivers available on the internet to install for your WiFi adapter to work on XP. If there are then shouldn't be a problem at all. Just search for the name or make of your WiFi adapter on Google plus 'XP drivers' and I'm sure you'll be able to get them from somewhere.

Windows XP has been out for a very long time; a computer with Windows XP can be had for extremely little money (possibly $20 or less).Windows 98 hasn't been supported in a very long time, and thus has a lot of security vulnerabilities that put the user at risk. New hardware won't have Windows 98 drivers, and most new software won't run on Windows 98. Most popular office applications of the past decade (such as from Office 97 on up) run fine on Windows XP, as well as a good majority of games.

Theoretically, yes. Windows update can be set to downloaded the newest hardware drivers. And new drivers could easily resolve some kind of hardware issue. I would need to know more about the situation.

Since this has been posted under Windows 98, I presume the hardware is rather old. Usually, any drivers made specifically for Windows XP will work with all of the Service Packs. However, as regards to Windows 7, I highly doubt that the hardware will be supported. There are also probably specific drivers for Windows 7, as there usually are.

Bios is independent of the operating system. The steps vary slightly from manufacturer to manufacturer, but the usual process is pressing the F8 key when the computer turns on. The timing is important. On an older computer you may have time to see a 'loading' screen, which may also have instructions near the very bottom or the very top of the screen telling you what button to press. An example would be, right after the computer turns on you see the Dell symbol, and near the bottom of the screen it says '[F8 to enter Setup]' or something of this nature. This will load the bios.
