How did the US help the Allies in World War 2?

Other than joining the actual combat there are two significant ways in which the U.S. helped its allies: (1) FRD's "Lend Lease" program which enabled England to purchase war materials and pay for them later and (2) helping England win the War in the Atlantic and thereby keeping the sea lanes across the Atlantic open. Without either England could not have held out against Germany prior to the Normandy Invasion.

The Soviets were supplied with half a million US trucks and jeeps during the war which enabled the Red Army to sustain their mobile offensives that ripped apart the Germans. The US supplied many other materials and supplies to the USSR but the trucks were probably the most important.

The attack of which country prompted Britain and France to declare war against Germany?

The Treaty of Versailles set up certain restrictions for Germany, such as a ban the creation of wartime materials. When Adolf Hitler rose to power, he defied many of these restrictions and entered the Sudetenland, which is an area between Germany and France controlled by France at the time. What triggered a declaration of war was the invasion of Poland by Germany. Due to the defensive pacts Britain and France had with Poland, they declared war on Germany. Before this, however, Britain and France tried to pacify the growing Germany through a process known as appeasement, but war soon followed as stated above

What is the best explanation why the Allies were able to win World War 2?

One major reason for allies winning ww2 was good Leadership of the Generals...

Maybe another as... Vast amounts of Military resources and overwhelming power may be another reason :D

Poor leadership from Axis side (irrational decisions by Hitler, in particular).

or maybe it was that the Russian winter slaughtered the Germans, along with the best army, and tanks.

Another reason the allies won in the pacific was the A-Bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. It pretty much showed the Japanese that they started the war by attacking the US and the US would win it by attacking their country. All in all, there were several big reasons the Allies won, there wasn't just one huge reason.

These were the three major allied powers during World War 2?

In World War II the chiefAllied Powers were Great Britain, France (except during the German occupation, 1940--44), the Soviet Union (after its entry in June 1941), the United States (after its entry on Dec. 8--11, 1941), and China. More generally the Allies included all the wartime members of the United Nations, the signatories to the Declaration of the United Nations. The original signers, of Jan. 1, 1942, were Australia, Belgium, Canada, China, Costa Rica, Cuba, Czechoslovakia, Dominican Republic, Great Britain, Greece, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, India, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Norway, Panama, Poland, Salvador, South Africa, the Soviet Union, the United States, and Yugoslavia; subsequent wartime signers were the Philippines, Mexico, Ethiopia, Iraq, Free French, and Free Danes.

During the war itself, Britain, the USA, and the USSR were the dominant Allies ('the Big Three'), and coordinated the progress of the war and its aftermath at meetings in Tehran, Yalta, and Potsdam. After the war, France was accepted as a fourth main ally. The term 'the Allies' has been applied to military coalitions led by the US since, notably in the Gulf War and the war against the Taliban in Afghanistan of 2001--2.

How did the Allies won World War 2?

The Allies (United Kingdom, United States, Soviet Union, France, Poland, Republic of China, etc.) won because of several major reasons including.....

In Europe

- Germany and Italy tried to expand their empire too much, in North Africa, due to bad morale and Strategy The British And its colonies were able to repel the Axis at the Siege of Malta, Second Battle of El Alamein which was the Turning point in Africa, and the Battle of Britain which stopped the German advance into the west, the Germans and Italians were repelled from the Middle east by the British forces, and the Siege of Stalingrad which turned out disastrous for the Germans and stopped their advance into the east.

- German U-Boats attacked British merchant ships which proved effective at first until the British navy and merchant ships devised new ways of transport and defense of the merchant ships

- Germany and Italy was under constant bombardment by mainly the RAF and occasionally the US air force by the time of 1944 90% of German cities were destroyed.

In the Pacific

- The Empire of Japan underestimated the United States ability to make war in the Pacific.

- The Japanese defeat at the battle of the midway proved decisive for the American navy and turned the tide of naval warfare in the pacific

- The Japanese army lacked the resources to continue warfare and the British in Burma were decisively pushing the Japanese in Burma Back killing some 400.000 Japanese soldiers on their path, the US Army was capturing Island after Island getting ever closer to mainland Japan.

-The Chinese, Russians, And British were Liberating parts of China occupied by the Japanese.

For Both

- The Axis Powers were out numbered and out thought . While the Allies were poring more and more Troops into the war, the Axis were loosing ground and resources very quickly. The Germans were virtually surrounded in Europe and blockaded by the British, and the Russians coming in from the east killing 50% of the German army in the war, the Allies landing in Normandy rapidly Liberating France. And the Allies Steaming through Italy.

Also

Japan lost because it fought on three large scale fronts (China, India, and the pacific).

Germany had some advanced technology. their tiger tank was basically a moving anti-tank gun. they lost because they invaded Russia, and they were horribly equipped for winter warfare, and had summer equipment when they invaded Russia. Why? Because Hitler thought they would fall before winter.

The Soviets played a key role in keeping the Germans occupied and taking Poland while the other allies liberated Paris. In the end, Russia invaded Berlin ended the war in Europe. (VE day)

Did any Swedes fight with the Allies?

With Sweden being a Neutral country I think that most of its citizens were of the same mindset.Whereas Norway ,Denmark, etc being attacked and they're military forces opposing the enemy, albeit a small force compared to the German might, the overwhelmed but not defeated remnant fled to sanctuary in Britain and joined the fight from there in the S.O.E. or the free Norwegion or Danish forces, as did the Dutch ,French,Czech,Polish. There could very well have been Swedish citizens who, as individuals came and joined the fight.

There was several swedish volunteers figthing with british and American forces, i know there were a few swedish soldiers fighting with the Americans at Omaha beach.

However most of the swedish volunteers went to fight with the finns in the winter war, and a small number fought with the Germans.

When did the US officially declare war on Germany in World War 2?

Germany declared war on the U.S. on 11 December 1941 (yes, that way round). As is usual in such circumstances both countries recalled their embassy staff. It's a common fallacy to assume that a declaration of war has to be reciprocated. In other words, the U.S. had no need in international law to declare war on Germany.

How was the economy during 1939-1945?

The World Economy was bad, with high inflation being the leading effect. But, at the time it became known as the 'Great Depression' in the United States; the world economies where actually getting better. History shows that a group of federal government plans to help end the depression actually made it worse.

Examples of these are:

  • President Hoover pasted the Smoot-Hawley Tariff in 1929 which just about destroyed American Agricultural exports
  • In 1933 then President FDR's, (Roosevelt), paid farmers NOT to grow corps, this artificially raised the price of these politically selected crops.
  • This grew to the U.S. government plowing under 10 million acres of cotton and slaughtering over 6 million piglets in an attempt to raise the price of these product's which by 1935 caused the U.S. to import 36 million bales of cotton and 2 million lbs of bacon and ham.

Actions like these caused people to lose their farm's, job's and caused the U.S. to import products which due to the loss of income caused by destroying and not producing locally, made the products cost more than people could afford. This caused that deeper recession known as the 'Great Depression.'

What was the reason for the allies to fight in world war 2?

Answer
What caused us to enter into the Second World War on the side of the Allies?
Pearl Harbor made it clear we were at war. The Japanese were on the side of the "Axis Powers" so we automatically were on the side of the "Allies."
Actually there is more to it that just that. We had fought along with the English and French in World War I, and against the Germans. There was still bad feelings against the Germans left over from that war.
There was great sympathy for the British as we saw England being bombed. Then too our language, much of our culture, and some of our religions were from England. Another important contribution was the broadcast from Edward R. Morrow, who was in London broadcasting the events as they happened on the radio.
In 1940 there was a VERY strong movement in America against getting involved in another war. Pearl Harbor caused that movement to disappear in a day.
Plus, Japan and the US were having arguments on "whos the big-daddy in the pacific" Japan told Germany that Japan would help take over America in helping Hitler's quest for world domination...Germany agreed and they both failed.
