Xerox

Xerox is a company best known for its photocopying technology. As a verb, it is often used informally to mean making a photocopy of a document, but technically it refers to the act of copying using a Xerox machine.

You can likely find old Xerox magazine advertisements in archives or libraries that specialize in advertising history. You may also find them for sale online on websites that sell vintage advertisements or on auction sites.

Xerox did not invent printing in color. A variety of color printing processes were available in the printing industry during at least the last half of the 20th century. Xerox and its competitors made printing in color easier and less costly.

The Xerox Notetaker computer was never introduced, in the sense of it being sold to the public. It was an internal Xerox PARC project started in 1978 and cancelled in early 1980 after only a few prototypes had been built.

I am not familiar with the Xerox 2400 but, if you can make a Macintosh running OS X see the scanner, be it by USB, Wifi, Bluetooth, or even the old SCSI interface, there are generic scanner software that should be able to make it work. How well will it work is another question. Just do a search for 'generic scanner software for OS X.' If the scanner is older than, say 10 years, you may have problems with the Macintosh 'seeing' the scanner. It may be much easier to purchase and inexpensive scanner if it is that old. The inexpensive scanner will be far superior to a 10+ year old scanner.

There are Xerox companies around the world in many countries. They are mostly at least partly owned by the Xerox Corporation of Norwalk, Connecticut. Their function is to market the products and services of Xerox Corporation within the countries they serve.

In addition to marketing, Fuji-Xerox Corporation, based in Japan, researches, designs and builds xerographic machines and supplies. They have manufacturing and research facilities in Japan, Taiwan, Korea and China and manage national marketing companies throughout the East Asia region, including in Australia and New Zealand.

Thomas Edison

One of the greatest inventors in history, Thomas Edison (1847-1931) is most remembered for his invention of the electric light and designing one of the original electric power stations, which brought electricity to millions. He also invented the original copy machine. Later known as a mimeograph machine (patented by Edison in 1887), it was a stencil devise that forced ink through the holes in the stencils to duplicate or copy the original document. One disadvantage of the mimeograph was that the original had to be specially created as a mimeograph stencil or master.

The machine more commonly called a copier in the early 21st century is a xerographic copier. The process was invented by Chester Carlson. It was brought to market by Carlson, working with a tam from the Battelle Institute and a team from The Haloid Company. Haloid later changed its name to Xerox Corporation.

The Sharpe AR 5516 is NOT a Xerox machine because it is not made or sold by the Xerox Corporation.

As of 2011, Xerox Corporation has about 135,000 employees worldwide.

You lay a page or photo on a copier - it copies and prints whatever you put on it. You lay a page or photo on a scanner - it copies the item and sends it to your computer. You can use software to make it look better or resize the image. When you are ready to print it, you send it to your printer. A scanner doesn't print.

Xerox was founded in 1906 in Rochester as "The Haloid Photographic Company", which originally manufactured photographic paper and equipment. The company subsequently changed its name to "Haloid Xerox" in 1958 and then to "Xerox Corporation" in 1961.

Xerox is perhaps the best known brand of photocopier. If you are in the market for an industrial photocoper to use in an office setting, Xerox would be your best bet. It, however, it is a small office or a home office, there are other options available, including printers which have a scan feature that can be used as a photocopier.

If your cartridges are not being recognized by the printer, make sure the tape (often brightly colored) covering the cartridge's vent cycles. Remove the cartridge from the printer. Power the printer off, and leave it off for two minutes. Power the printer back on, and reinstall the cartridge, and then run the head-cleaning cycle.

The word Xerox is not an acronym. It is derived from the invented word "xerography" which describes the process of plain paper copying invented in 1938 by Chester Carlson and means "dry writing."
