At one year old a beagle's skeletal system is near maturity and weight gain is slowing down. At 18 months old, the dog stops growing and its weight becomes stable.
A basset hound is a short-legged breed of dog in the hound family.
The average size litter for a small collie is six puppies. Generally, this breed of dog has between four and eight puppies.
About once a week if you bath your dog very often your dog looses his oils and that is not good for him. Unless he gets into a mud hole give him a bath once a week.
No, unless if your Labrador have a docked (cut short) tail. Most Labradors have a medium-length, rounded tail called "otter tail".
This is probably inflammatory exudate, which may be due to a bacterial infection, a yeast infection or an ear mite infestation. Your veterinarian can do a simple ear swab test to see what type of infection or infestation your dog may have. Based upon that, your veterinarian will give you the medications and instructions to get the infection cleared up.
Go to google or yahoo, type in beagle ,and click on images .It will show you a picture. Most beagles are tri-colored (brown, black & white) but some are just white with brown/tan spots. They are very cute, loving, friendly and great with kids. I would recommend beagles to all families.
a well cared for greyhound should live to be anywhere from 10-13 years old
Prices of Basset Hounds vary for many different reasons.
The purebred dogs range anywhere from 1,500 to 3,000.
Other non-purebred dogs range from free to 600 dollars.
It really all depends where you get the dog and who you get it from!
Nope that is the wrong breed of dog yes they do need to be walked but hiking long walks like that.. Boat fine as long as you do have a safety vest for the dog..So The Basset Hound is not the right breed for hiking and long walks and running
They are used to hunt fox, hare, opossum, and pheasant. While the dogs reflexes are slow, it has an excellent sense of smell.
Bassets Hounds are great dogs just not for what you like to do, that's why I tell people to choose the breed of dog that fits your life style..From your Q the Basset is not the right breed for your life style..
They are made from a Bloodhound and an Artesien Normand breed. The word 'Bas' means low, and 'et' means rather low.
I hope this helped!
There is not such a breed, but there are types of Bassets which tend to be physically smaller than the classic variety. The Basset Arteisan Normand, for example weighs in at around 35 pounds vs. the classic Basset Hound at around 75 pounds.
No, the basset hound is the smallest hound in the hound family. The basset hound has short stubby legs, long droopy ears, sad looking droopy eyes. The Basset hound may look sad often but it is just the dogs look, he could be very happy at the moment, his tail will wag if he is. The hounds in the hound family are the basset hound, the beagle, the blood hound
quite a lot!!!!! ours weighed 12kg at 14 week old
A male Basset Hound can breed at about 7-8 months but I would advise against this as you do not yet know if the stud has any problems that you do not want passed on to future generations. My advise is to wait until they are about 2 years old and by that time their adult characteristics will be evident and you will know better if it is responsible to breed him. The Basset Hound is an old breed which is a direct descended of the Bloodhound and has a nose that is almost as outstanding. Some sources suggest the Basset Hound may have originated from genetic dwarf dogs which were born in litters of different types of hunting hounds. The name "Basset Hound" comes from the French word "bas" meaning low. The Basset Hounds long ears have been poetically described by Shakespeare as: "Ears which sweep away the morning dew." The breed was first presented at a Paris dog show in 1863 which began the dog's popularity. Their popularity spread to England and feuds soon arose between those who wanted the dog to be more of a show dog, keeping them more as a companion dog and those who wanted to keep it as a hunting dog. The breed spread to America where breeders started developing a dog which they felt covered both hunting and companion / show traits. The breed was recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1885. Able to hunt in both packs or alone, the dog is good at hunting in the den and in the open. They are used to hunt fox, hare, opossum, and pheasant. While the dogs reflexes are slow, it has an excellent sense of smell. The fact that they are relatively slow on their feet means they can be more convenient for hunters who are on foot. They are also less likely to scare game out of reach. It is said that George Washington owned Basset Hounds which were given to him by Lafayette after the American Revolution.
The Basset was bred for hunting small game. The Basset's long ears were developed to stir up and hold the scent for their strong nose to smell. The folds of skin under the chin, called the "dewlap", help trap and hold the scent. Wrinkles about the head and face also aid in holding the scent. Their large feet make them steady and the heavy bones make them sturdy. With their short legs they are ideal for slow trailing which allows hunters to follow on foot. The Basset is used primarily to hunt rabbit although they were first used on other small game such as pheasant.
