I talked with a chocolate company's advertising representative about this. The answer is: it's more expensive to make chocolate from cocoa powder in your own home, they have worked it out, and then they make both the cocoa powder AND the chocolates very, very expensive, both, because they want more money. it's quite CHEAP to make chocolate, but they add on non-existenct costs to make more money. They want a monopoly, all around the world, and its a type of manipulation they do; these days, the prices are going up YET to produce more chocolate for more sales, they are hiding where their cocoa- plantations are, and paying, at most, around $2.00 U.S.A. per week to the workers, so the prices in our shops do not actually mean a lot.
If buying chocolate, please buy Organic FAIR TRADE chocolate. Whittakers seem a good brand too.
