Go with what you are comfortable with! Update: Not all commanders have alloy frames; The weight is still less than a full government model, as the dust cover, barrel and upper receiver are shorter. The lower receiver grip and magazine size are identical however. I own all three varieties, and prefer the commander as a "carry" weapon; It is a good balance between size and reliability. Officer's Models can be very difficult to reliably tune. Government Models are just bulky enough that a commander makes a nice middle-ground between the two.
