Why did the US want to add on territory of Hawaii?
After the illegal overthrow of the Hawaiian Kingdom, U.S. President Grover Cleveland attempted to have the usurpers return Hawai'i to the Hawaiian people. However, he lost his next election and was never able to complete that task.
The usurpers (aka: The Committee of Safety), was comprised of wealthy American/European businessmen and missionary descendants (who were also businessmen), who made large profits from the sugar industry.
Because Hawai'i was not part of the United States, these wealthy businessmen could not get the price they wanted for sugar (through trade with the U.S.). The solution to that problem was to take over Hawai'i and hand it over to the U.S., which The Committee of Safety did once President Grover Cleveland was out of office.
His successor, William McKinley, saw Hawai'i as a valuable strategic military location. With that, he accepted Hawai'i and never returned it to its people. To this day, Hawai'i has the largest military population of any State and one of its largest land owners is the U.S. military.
What was the attitude towards the Hawaiians of the early whites who went to the Hawaiian Islands?
They appeared to be a malleable labor force capable of hard labor and well adapted to the climate and weather conditions of the Islands. They were seen as ready workers (call that slaves, serfs or vassals). Hawaiians were workers, but their history and culture did not allow them to become an enslaved people. These were a warrior class that demanded respect.
Missionaries considered them to be easy converts which was also untrue. They simply chose not to offend the Haloes and practiced their religion on the sly. Hawaiians were most often considered to be quite like naive little children, endowed with a certain innocence that only needed a slight nudge with a firm hand in the right direction to bring them to Christian salvation.

Hawaii wasn't built, its a natural structure.
Actually Hawaii is still being built by active volcanoes. There is a new island underwater that is slowly being formed by volcanic activity. Lava, which is molten rock, is spewed out by volcanic activity and creates new land. This is now happening on the "Big Island" also known as Hawaii.
Is Hawaii a humid or arid area?
Strangely enough, both. Rain is brought to the islands by the tradewinds, so the NE side of the islands tends to be very wet and lush. The SW side of the islands is in the rain shadow of the mountains, and may be arid, with bare lava rock, cactus, and plants you would expect in a desert. Climate changes with only a few miles travel.
