William Irish is the pen name used by American crime fiction author Cornell Woolrich. Under this pseudonym, he wrote numerous thrillers and suspense novels, including "Phantom Lady" and "I Married a Dead Man," which have become classics of the genre. Woolrich's works are known for their dark, suspenseful atmosphere and innovative plot twists.

Given started around the same time that Packie Bonner was finishing his international career, in 1996, but Alan Kelly also played for Ireland around that time and during much of the earlier part of Shay Given's time with Ireland.
