What were the short- and long-term effects of the Korean War?

The firing of General MacArthur by Pres. Truman was stupid and irresponsible. General MacArthur wanted to bomb Red China in to oblivion with nuclear bombs at that time. Red China did not have a nuclear capability at that time. It does now and is the world's largest exporter of illegal drugs in the world according to the IC&E. A large portion of these Red Chinese drugs are smuggled into the U. S. to destroy American lives. The money from this illegal "trade" is used to fuel the massive Red Chinese military machine. Had Pres. Truman not fired the General, Red China would never have become the power that it is today. At that time Red China joined North Korea in attacking South Korea and the defending American forces. At first the Americans and South Koreans were overwhelmed by the massive numbers of Chinese troops. Had the U. S. knocked out the Red Chinese with nuclear weapons right then and there, then we wouldn't have the Red Chinese giving us so much problems today. The U. S. Congress should have impeached Truman before he had a chance to fire MacArthur. Russia would never have dared to attack the U. S. to defend their ally, the Red Chinese. They knew at that time that their country, Russia, would be utterly destroyed by us in a nuclear exchange. That is why Kennedy was able to stand up to Kruschev during the Cuban missile crisis in 1962. The Russians knew that they would be utterly destroyed by the U. S. in a nuclear exchange. Today, Russia, North Korea, and Red China are supplying Iran with nuclear know how and missile technology. A lot of what we know is happening in Iran is unknown, because a lot of the labs, and nuclear development is being conducted under massive under ground bunkers, that even block buster bombs would have a hard time knocking out. Nuclear missiles would be the best weapons to blow up these bunkers. We should let Israel defend itself by letting it attack Iran's nuclear facilities. We also should conduct a surgical strike against North Korea's nuclear facilities, before they really launch a missile against the U. S. Why are we so chicken livered that we are so afraid to defend our freedom?

Due to excessive military spending and diversion of funds overseas, the dollar weakened. There was no equivalent amount of funds coming into the country. The country cringed under the strain of household social spending and subsidies on one side and military expenditure on the other. The government earned dissatisfaction from the general public as the interest rates rose and inflationary trends ballooned. The affluent lifestyle of the 60s which prevailed in the US began to erode because of the economic paralysis which laid the country forlorn in the 70s' Vietnam War. What event caused Truman to send American troops to Korea in 1950?

President Truman had developed the "Containment doctrine" that held that Communism must be contained within the areas it then controlled and that every effort to expand its territory further must be 'actively' resisted by the USA. The doctrine was developed after the USSR's Josef Stalin had installed puppet Communist governments in practically all of the countries in Eastern Europe where it had chased out the armies of Nazi Germany. This Truman Doctrine not only led to its involvement in the Korean War, but later also to US policy towards Cuba and finally, to US involvement in the Vietnam war.

Since it was Communist North Korea that started the war by invading South Korea, this was a clear case of Communism trying to expand its territory. Since it furthermore clearly was an unprovoked invasion without any preceding declaration of war, the US had no trouble convincing the UN and its members to also come to the aid of South Korea and troops of several Western countries fought North Korea - and later the Chinese forces sent in to support the Korean army.

What was the date of the beginning and the end of the Korean conflict war?

The "Korean Conflict" (War) began at 11:00 A.M. on 25 June, 1950 with Premier of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea Kim Il Sung's declaration of war. This declaration of war came approximately 7 hours after communist North Korean forces began the invasion of South Korea. The was has not ended. As of July 27, 1953 an armistice was signed and broken many times with U.S. Soldiers being killed on the DMZ by the North Koreans.

The 'Korean conflict' was a declared National Emergency by President Truman on December 16, 1950. President Truman signed Public Law 450 in 1952 for this National Emergency. In the Congressional Record- House (Sept. 4,1975) on page 27632 and 27634, Congressman Rodino and Congressman Flowers stated "Presently, the National Emergency declared in December of 1950 by President Truman in connection with the Korean conflict is in effect. "This was the 94th Congress.

This National Emergency was eliminated on Sept. 14, 1976 by Public Law 94-412( National Emergencies Act) signed by President Ford.

The Department of Veterans Affairs Laws (Title 38, U.S.C., Section 101. Definitions- Statute (9) states The term "Korean conflict" means the period beginning on June 27, 1950 and January 31, 1955." These are the Laws for registered U.S. Veterans with the Department of Veterans Affairs Regional offices.

The problem with this ending date of the Korean conflict" at the Department of Veterans Affairs isn't the correct ending date by the U.S. Congress passed into a Public Law by the President of the United States. Many U.S. Representatives and U.S. Senators have avoided correcting this ending date of the "Korean conflict" and the result is many U.S. Veterans are getting recognized/accepted for being a 'period of war' veteran at the Department of Veterans Affairs Regional Office.
