Asking Questions.
Do you think studying primitive societies is important for modern people?
yes i do
in order to understand what and who we are today, why when and how we got to where we are today we have to look at what and who people were previously and why when and how they got to where they are.
also its very interesting stuff to learn,
we have such preconceptions that people before us were indeed 'primitive' but where do people think we got our inventions from in the first place, they didnt just appear, someone from what we would call a primitive time came up with them
anyone who has any interest in learning, in society, in past, in present, in future, in humans, in life would always benefit from learning about 'primitive' people and primitive' lives
i think there are a lot of things relevant to life and living, to society and individuals alike that are not taught, should be taught and/or should have been taught a long time ago
i hate the idea that if i have a child I will have to teach them all these knowledgeable things, because schools are still very ignorant and uneducated themselves. (not because i dont want to, because school is supposed to be a learning place, a place to be educated on things)
i feel my child going to school will infact be a complete waste as i could teach them more in a day than a school will teach them in a year, and about things of interest not that will bore the life and the will to learn out of them.

Is our culture suffering from a kind of philosophical illiteracy?
Today, more than ever it is very useful to study philosophy. Our culture seems to be suffering from a kind of philosophical illiteracy. As we become more mechanized, technological, specialized and money-focused, we tend to de-emphasize the study of history, culture, philosophy, and humanities. This results in a vast unfamiliarity with other times, people and ideas. Our partiality is magnified because we see so little of the big picture. Without the broad exposure to the world of ideas, we have very few tools for seeing contemporary situations in the proper context. Our viewpoints and behaviors tend to be more narrow and self-serving and we see alternative forms of expression as being "bad", "boring", or "strange" instead of interesting. Our tolerance for variety is diminished and our judgmental natures are reinforced.
Philosophy is the framework for a life of purpose. Studying philosophy can broaden and deepen our understanding of alternatives. It can help us to realize new possibilities. It can help us recognize fallacies in behavior and ideas. It helps clarify our thinking and can make our behavior and thinking more consistent. We can deepen and broaden our core beliefs through a study of philosophy.
