In order to get the people of Amsterdam to cooperate and support the new King wholeheartedly, they promised Amsterdam it could become the new nation's capitol...to which they agreed.

Yet to this day, no parts of (national) government work from Amsterdam, despite bids from the city for the state departments to consider the move.

The Netherlands is under a Democratic government which is technically under a monarchical rule.

The Dutch fought hard for independence from Spain from 1568 onwards. The independence of the Netherlands from both Spain and the Holy Roman Empire was finally recognized internationally in the Pease of Westphalia (1648).

There were several reasons why the dutch moved to new netherland. This occurred mostly in the 1600s and was due mostly to the following reasons: - Anglicans, a group of religious extremists who believed in eliminated most recreational aspects of English life, wanted to live in a land of religious freedom - Colonies were being formed all over the world, in which larger countries like Spain, England, Portugal, and France, along with the Dutch, could manipulate the natural resources of the lands to expand trade. The English were doing this in the Americas and so they had people moving to America as workers - Many felt that Europe was overcrowding and saw the Americas as a land of oppurtunity for wealth and prosperity with more land and freedom

Dutch people have similar leisure time activities as the rest of the world. Some like to read, ride bicycles, garden, or sew. Some like to play computer games, board games, or do crossword puzzles. Many enjoy watching television or preparing food.
