Why is 14th August celebrated as Pakistan's independence day?

Pakistan was a part of India in the colonised era. In 1930s a Muslim political leader named Muhammad Ali Jinnah asked for a separate Muslim state from the British Government which was governing India at that time. Many attempts were taken to reject this request and keep India united, but they were not successful.

Therefore under the British viceroy Lord Mountbatten, Pakistan was announced as a separate country in 14th August 1947 and was given independence from Britain.

That is why Pakistan celebrate 14th August as their Independence day.
