It started on September 1, 1939 and lasted until the last Polish army surrendered on October 6, 1939. So the campaign lasted a little over a month. However, contrary to popular belief, the Polish military actually fought surprisingly well during the campaign, and inflicted fairly significant losses on the German (and Soviet) forces arrayed against them.

Official name for Santa in Poland is Święty Mikołaj (St. Nicholas). However, in my region - Wielkopolska in Western Poland - he is called Gwiazdor. So, the rest of Poland gets presents from Św. Mikołaj twice (on Dec. 6 - mainly sweets - as it's his namesday, and on Dec. 24, as it's Xmas Eve, but here we get presents from Św. Mikołaj on the 6 and from Gwiazdor on the 24).

Poland is situated between Russia and Germany. Both nations have never favored the Polish people and have always wanted to take over the land of Poland. The German Nazis did this and later the USSR did that. The Poles gained their freedom in 1990.

The national tree of Poland is an Oak. That is the symbol of ancient Slavic god Perun, so the holy-oak-groves were to be worshiped (still some of them remains). The oak is also connected with the emblem of Poland, the White Eagle. Is said that the founder of the state saw the White Eagle's nest on the Oak tree, and he decided to establish the first Poland's capital there, because he thought that the place must be "royal" if the white eagle lives on the god's Tree (notice that Poland's first capital is called Gniezno which means The Nest).

After the war, President Wilson wished to recreate Poland because of his belief in self-determination, the idea that everyone should be able to choose their country. Also, there were many ethnic Poles in the United States who brought the issue to the president's attention.
