Spain has many different traditional foods because it is an amalgamation of former Kingdoms, Counties, and Duchys. Here are some examples:

• Bacalao is a dried salted codfish.
• Butifarra sausage is a a white sausage popular in Cataluna
• Olives
• Chorizo is the most typical Spanish sausage, heavily scented with paprika and garlic.
• Meat is also very popular in Spanish cuisine; mutton, lamb, pork, and beef are staples
• Madrid: the cocido madrileno (Madrid's chickpea stew)
• Madrid: the tripe dish callos a la madrilena
• More foods are empanadas, porkchops, totones, etc
• Los mariscos: lots of different seafoods for a main course
• Calamares a la romana (Fried squid)
• Cocido montanes from Cantabria
• Gazpacho (cold bread and tomato soup)
• Gooseneck barnacles typical from Galicia
• Fabada asturiana (bean stew)
• Lechazo asado (roasted milk-fed lamb)
• Majorca's Ensaimada, a pastry
• Shellfish
• Chuletillas (grilled chops of milk-fed lamb)

• Mackerel and flatfish

• Cooked and cured sausages from Vic are famous
• Catalan cream, similar to crème brulee

The country code for Spain is +34.

You can dial the + character on most mobile phones; if you are unable to do this or are calling from a fixed phone you must replace it with the code used to make an international call from your country. This is 00 in most of Europe and many other countries, or 011 in North America.

You then need to dial the full 9-digit Spanish number. Although numbers in Spain are still grouped roughly by region, there are no longer any optional area codes - just standard 9-digit numbers that are dialled in full. Most numbers in Barcelona begin with +34 93.

The UK is telephone country code +44, and you must drop the leading 0 from the UK domestic number.

Spain no longer uses area codes, per se. You must dial the full nine-digit national number for all calls within Spain, and country code +34 followed by the 9-digit national number for international calls into Spain. However, landline numbers in Ibiza and the Balearic Islands most likely begin with either 971 or 871.
