Adam and Eve

The account of Adam and Eve is one of the world's best known creation stories. It also serves as the basis for three major world religions: Judaism, Islam, and Christianity. Typical questions by contributors include the story's relationship to other religious writings, parallels with other creation stories, impacts on world art and literature, and collaboration by science.

In The Chronicles of Narnia what is the symbolism behind the two sons of Adam and two daughters of eve specifically why two male and female why family members?

The books are to do with God and sacrifices.

In the last book Aslan "comes out" as God.

He created the Narnia.

Two sons of Adam and two daughters of eve symbolise Adam and Eve

and the parts of what makes up the earth/Narnia.

ie. Forests, Oceans, Deserts etc.

And they are all family because they all join in the end.

Through the blood cycle but also they symbolise, things we must treasure

such as being gentle, brave, loyal and just.

Which is said in the Bible.

Who did God make before Adam and a soul He did claim and took the soul again?

Since who implies a person, Adam was the first person that was created by God followed by Eve.

Another Answer:

Did the snake in the garden of eden have a name? It obviously was more intelligent than Adam. There was a beautiful and intelligent being cited by the Bible as having lived before and during the time of Adam. Adam ate the apple, which apparently means that Adam ate. So at least plants as beings must have lived before Adam. Do plants have souls? Maybe. Regardless of how mankind was created, the soul exists in real physical atomic relationships that can be verified through scientific effort using similar techniques as is done in Quantum Mechanics. How the Soul Works - A Physical Real World Relationship My biggest concern is how to prevent anyone from stealing a place for my soul.

Why do people believe what the Bible says?

=== === === === * It's by faith and if you don't believe in this kind of thing then each individual has a right to their own belief system or none at all. Faith comes by hearing the word of God; Romans 10:17 === === == == === === === === * Read it like a history book or an anthropological study, and you will see that the events can be extra Biblically corroborated. Beyond that you can get a glimpse of what God is like and how he raises His children. There are so many passages in the Bible that, when you read them, you'll see that no 'man' would present a religion this way. There are so many complexities and depths that cut across time and culture.

=== === * The answer to your question is in the question itself. The word is believe. Believe can exist with faith alone. It does not require proof or facts. So, why do people believe? Because it's comforting, it takes away the vexation of thinking, it gives hope, because it promises to give them what they want, etc and these enticement is the basis of all religions, cults, sects.

=== === * I believe in the King James Version of the Bible because the Holy Spirit laid it upon men's hearts what to write and what to say. If you do not ask Jesus to come into your heart and believe the Holy Bible you are going to die and go to hell. That is just the way it is. God does not change His Word to satisfy Man. === === * Although we have better technology and ways of life than people that lived 2000 years ago, they were still as human as we are today. Their intelligence level was the same as today. I believe in God because he first loved me, not because he divinely inspired people to write the Bible. === === * People believe in the Bible because God is real. Since the creation of the world his invisible attributes are clearly seen. Look at the trees, all the beautiful creatures in the sea, the stars, the moon the sun. Deep in our heart we know that the Father above is real. Everyone has an opportunity to come to the Father. When and if we do accept the Father and trust his son Jesus as our Savior, and we ask him to come into our life, he will confirm for us without a doubt that he is real. His promise is "knock and the door will be opened," "ask and you shall receive," "seek and you will find." He is a gentleman and he will not storm right in, he has to be invited. Jesus said: 'I am THE way, THE truth and THE life. NOBODY comes to the father, EXCEPT through ME.' John 14:6 === === * One could argue that it is an evolutionary adaptation of the human psyche to believe in God to avoid depression while maintaining man's critical thinking abilities. It's quite ingenious, from a survival standpoint. === === * If you take the time to read it then you will come to realize that much of what is in the Bible has already come true and there is more to come yet! === === * Look around you for the answer. Can you not see the beauty of everything. The way that everything has been designed and created. How carefully everything has been colored. Can you imagine what the sky would be like if it was green? And if the grass was red, how sore it would be on our eyes? Surely you cannot say that the world and all its beauty was made with just a 'Big Bang.' * 'At the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue confess that Jesus Christ IS Lord, to the glory of God the Father.' Philippians 2:4 Jesus said: 'I am THE way, THE truth and THE life. NOBODY comes to the father, EXCEPT through ME.' John 14:6 === === * It's not the 2000 year old Bible that makes me think that there's a God. It is the Bible that confirms His presence, which I personally have been aware of my whole life. I did not grow up in a spiritual family, but was very aware of what I refer to as the 'God Space' in every one's heart. There is a space, I believe, that nothing else can even remotely fill or satisfy, except for God. God is truly loving and merciful and gracious, yet man continues to corrupt his imagine in many ways. === === * I believe in the Bible because it states many scientific facts before they were "discovered" by men. For example: Bible date /Science date/ Gap The earth is a sphere. 1000 B.C. /1500 A.D./ 2500 Isaiah 40:22 Stars make sound. 2000 B.C. /2000 A.D./ 4000; Job 38:7 Earth rotates on its axis. 2000 B.C. /1550 A.D./ 3550; Job 38:12, and14; Luke 17:31,34; Blood sustains life. 1500 B.C. /1800 A.D./ 3300; Leviticus 17:11 This is only a little bit of the information the Bible contains. The Bible has been around for a long time. It can be proven. Some of these facts were talked about in the Bible centuries before they were discovered scientifically. How could men back in 30 A.D. know all that stuff? That is the thing - they didn't. That is why I believe the Bible and only the Bible. Everything else I grade by what the Bible says. * If there is not a God, how do you explain people who suddenly are cured of life threatening illnesses or injuries? How do you explain Luciano Italy where in the early 700s a monk was celebrating Mass and the bread and wine turned into body and blood. In 1975, scientists from all over the world (believers and non-believers) converged on the monastery in Luciano to perform tests on this body and blood, because it is still there on the alter untainted. They discovered the blood was AB+ and the body was human heart. Explain with science how that works? === === * We do the same thing with history textbooks. People read a history book and say that they know for sure that George Washington existed. How do we know? Because of journals that historians have found. The Bible is the same. === === * Our soul is made up of both a physical and spiritual component. When a person dies, their spirit leaves the physical body and goes to a place to await the resurrection of the physical body when the spirit and the body are again reunited. People of the world understand the physical aspects of the human soul, but too many have very little understanding of the spiritual aspects. God speaks to people through a process called personal revelation (spirit-to-spirit communication). When one reads or encounters things that are of God, such as scripture, if one is in tune with the spirit, God can reveal to one's spirit, matters related to truth. When people prayerfully study what God has revealed to His children (us) through His prophets, He speaks to our spirit through a member of the Godhead called the Holy Ghost. The Holy Ghost is a spirit that can speak to our spirit. Like a radio, however, we have to be in tune spiritually before we are able to receive spiritual guidance. Those who have faith in God and His Son Jesus Christ can receive personal revelation regarding spiritual matters. If we feel we are not receiving spiritual guidance in our lives, it is because we are not in tune spiritually, and like a radio out of tune, we will not receive personal revelation that teaches us truth. This is why some people who read the scriptures recognize them to be from God, and others think they are uninspired. It has everything to do with our spiritual attitude. Those who are humble and teachable will have the Holy Spirit testify to their spirit that the scriptures are inspired by God. Those out of tune spiritually might as well be reading the newspaper because they will feel nothing. One gets in tune through exercising faith, praying to God, and reading the words of God. == == * Because that is what faith is about - believing without seeing. This Bible is a message from God to those who believe in him and we cherish the Bible because the word of God cleanses our minds and keeps our heads up. He is our Creator (for those who believe in him)and we need to believe in something besides just life and death. We need to know what happened 2000 years ago and how it affected our lives. I believe in God and his word and don't need to see him to believe in him.because I have faith. With faith, I believe without having to see because that is what faith is. * Because it's not just a book - it's your life. It's all by faith, which means trusting someone though you don't know them. So we believe because everything in that book happened or will happen.

The fact of the matter is most events in the Bible can be proven. Why is there fossils of fish found in some mountains: a world wide cataclysmic flood.

More and more scientists have come to admit that in order for life to exist there had to of been something that at least started it all, created it all, something that has always been.

You ask why do people believe in a 2000 year old book?

The answers are simple. When reading the Bible (assuming that's the book your talking about and i believe a safe assumption) you get a glimpse of who God is, the one who created Heaven and Earth. You see what a Loving and great God and Abba (father) he really is. People are touched by this love and cant get enough of it.

My second answer to this is well the book is old, and a direct descendant to Judaism which is the oldest recorded religion on the face of the planet. Therefore, going at it in a secular perspective (but best to believe through faith not facts. you cant work your way to heaven), the most reliable source except the Jewish Bible, and the Bible actually contains the Tora.

* Most believe in a 2000 year old book because they were raised to believe in it. * Others believe in it because they have previously been vehemently opposed to it, but come to understand that the alleged inerrancies and contradictions have readily explainable meanings in context or have been blown out of all proportion. They find it is not necessary to leave your intellect behind in order to believe and that faith is not blind. Both authors set out attempting to disprove the Bible and ended up coming to believe it.

Who was Eve's youngest child?

We are not told who our first parents youngest child was. Cain and Able are only mentioned because of the tragic events that took place in their lives. Other children may have been born who followed the teachings of their father Adam, it was only when Cain came upon the scene and rebelled against his father and his God that the rest of the Bible story begins to unfold. Out of the two that were mentioned, Able is the younger.

Is the Biblical Creation in agreement with science as you now of today?

# The Genesis 1 creation account conflicts with the order of events that are known to science. In Genesis, the earth is created before light and stars, birds and whales before reptiles and insects, and flowering plants before any animals. The true order of events was just the opposite. 1:1-2:3 2 # God creates light and separates light from darkness, and day from night, on the first day. Yet he didn't make the light producing objects (the sun and the stars) until the fourth day (1:14-19). And how could there be "the evening and the morning" on the first day if there was no sun to mark them? 1:3-5 # Plants are made on the third day before there was a sun to drive their photosynthetic processes (1:14-19). 1:11 # God makes two lights: "the greater light [the sun] to rule the day, and the lesser light [the moon] to rule the night." But the moon is not a light, but only reflects light from the sun. And why, if God made the moon to "rule the night", then why does it spend half of its time moving through the daytime sky? 1:16 # "And God set them [the stars] in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth." 1:17 see link "firmament" # All animals were originally herbivores. Tapeworms, vampire bats, mosquitoes, and barracudas -- all were strict vegetarians, as they were created by God. 1:30

The Biblical creation account has no conflict whatsoever with real science. The conflict is with the presuppositions of evolutionary humanism which interprets everything according to this world-view.

Nothing that has been discovered is in conflict with the Bible rightly understood, including in its proper context. For example, light is needed for photosynthesis. Light already existed when the plants were created. No problem. Even if we ignore the narrative in Genesis 1 and say that light didn't come along till one day later, the plants would not have all died, they merely would have stopped photosynthesizing for a day. Again no problem.

The moon does indeed 'rule the night' as there is obviously no sun then and it reflects the sunlight onto the earth to a greater or lesser degree, depending on the phase. For the moon to be spending a portion of its time visible during daylight hours in no way diminishes this role when it is visible at night. Indeed many animals were originally herbivores which now are carnivores. They are thought to have changed their diet after the fall, or perhaps after the flood when there was a massive change in the climate and geography of the earth, thus requiring additional sources of protein. Regarding 'the order of events that are known to science.' This is only a hypothesis which can in no way be scientifically tested or proved as we can test, say, the existence of gravity, or the curvature of the earth. Scientific laws in fact support creation rather than evolution. For example the law of Biogenesis, demonstrated by Pasteur, shows that life only arises from life, not from non-life. Thus, even the simplest cell cannot have arisen spontaneously, but it was created along with everything else, and reproduces 'after its kind' with the ability to adapt and change to its environment within certain bounds. The scientific evidence, of which there is much, points to a young earth rather than an old one.

What did Adam have one of Eve had two of and now we all have three of?

Actually, the riddle goes like this: What did Adam have one of, Eve have two of, and now everyone has three of? Poor grammar aside, the answer is "the letter E."

Who are the two people next to Satan in hell?

The scriptures tell us that Cain only is next in leadership with Satan. Cain is also known as Master Mayhem and A Son of Perdition. Cain was the first to murder to get gain and in doing so a mark was placed upon him so that his kinsfolk would not kill him. Cain's advantage over Satan is that he had a body, whereas Satan did not.

13 And Cain said unto the LORD, My punishment is greater than I can bear.

14 Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the earth; and from thy face shall I be hid; and I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth; and it shall come to pass, that every one that findeth me shall slay me.

15 And the LORD said unto him, Therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And the LORD set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him. Gen. 4

The mark placed upon Cain was that of a dark skin, and all dark skinned people may be able to trace their lineage through Cain. This was carried through the lineage of Ham, Noah's son who married a dark skinned woman by the name of Egyptus. Her daughter Egyptus settled in the land Egypt.

Please note that the sins of Cain are not answered upon the heads of any of our dark skinned brothers and sisters.

Answer:

I see nothing in the above answer to prove Cain is the # 2 person in Hell, in fact God put a mark of protection on him so he would not be killed.

What religions support the hypothesis of Adam and Eve?

Three of the world's major religions support the creation story of Adam and Eve. The first is Judaism. In fact, the Hebrew Bible is the source of our information about the world's first man and first woman. Second is Christianity. The New Testament gospels include family trees of the genealogical descent of Jesus [c. 6 B.C.E. - c. A.D. 30] of Nazareth from Adam and Eve. Third is Islam. The Koran, as the Muslims' holy book, identifies Adam and Eve as the ancestors of Ismail, Hagar's son by Abraham.

Did Adam and Eve have a last name?

The Bible doesn't say, so no one knows Last names (Surnames) were not used during the time of Adam and Eve. The last name structure was not really common place until the late 1200s - although there were some traces of them at earlier dates. As the population grew last names in part were used to limit confusion. In other words, if an area had five individuals named Tom, how could you describe the one in five Toms you were referring to? Thus, lets say the Tom you were referring to lived over a hill; to identify him you might call him Tom Overhill, Thus his last name may have been adopted as Overhill. Sometimes last names referred to a place or city, and even an occupation like John Carpenter.

Who wrote the Biblical Creation stories?

Answer 1: Moses

The first book of Moses is called Genesis. Therefore, it's believed that Moses wrote Genesis, which contains the creation account.

Answer 2: Historical Analysis

The first biblical creation story, in Genesis 1:1-2:4a, is considered by biblical scholars to have been written by the 'P' (Priestly) source. The second biblical creation story, in Genesis 2:4bff, is considered by biblical scholars to have been written by the 'J' (Yahwist) source.

Answer 3: Edited by Moses but Written Earlier

If you are referring to the creation accounts in the Bible there is really only one account contained in Genesis 1-2 and others in other parts of the Bible, although the Genesis account is the best known. The final editor of the Genesis account, probably Moses, used a common custom of his day by writing an account which focuses on the creation of the world and all that is in it in Genesis 1:1 to 2:4a and then an account which focuses on the creation of mankind in Genesis 2:4b and following.

Since we know from other ancient sources that writing was known and used for centuries before even Abraham, (contrary to skeptical nineteenth century theories) then it is possible that Abraham, as has been suggested by scholars, was either the author or collector of these accounts, with Moses being the final editor.

The archeological discovery of the Ebla Tablets is just another of many discoveries which make the skeptical JEDP theories of the nineteenth century seem rather unlikely. The Ebla Tablets, which contain a creation account with details very similar to Genesis, and which pre-date Abraham, may well indicate a common knowledge among the ancients of the real truth of the Genesis account. Although we do not know the author of these tablets, we do know that they also confirm the historicity of the biblical record in a number of other places, which suggests that the scenerio of likely biblical authors is more likely to be correct. Even archeologists who do not necessarily believe the Bible, when speaking about the Ebla Creation Tablet acknowledged that 'we'd better forget about JEDP' (my paraphrase.)

Answer 4: Oral Tradition Prior to Writing Down

Regardless of your faith, or lack thereof, it is safe to say that, long before any of the books in the Old Testament were written, they were passed down orally. So the person who composed the creation story and the person who put it to paper are two different people. But, something being written doesn't make it truer. An oral tradition can be true just as the written word can be false.

That being said, the creation stories in the Old Testament are a mix of material created by the Hebrew people and the older creation stories of the cultures around them. They grew and changed with retelling and as people moved around they adopted some of the forms common in their area. They wouldn't even have known they were changing anything because they had no written copy. Historians believe that this explains some of the contradictory elements of the modern Bible.

People who have faith in the perfect accuracy of the Bible do not believe that it is correct because it was written down right away by an eye witness. They believe it is correct because God would have guided the writer and ensured that errors would not be made in the written record.

Another good thing to consider when reading the Bible is: who translated it? The various books of the Bible are written in many languages and have been translated from Hebrew to Greek to Latin to English and the meaning gets changed along the way. The preserve the most accuracy translating the Hebrew directly to English and having the translation done by someone who knows the culture it was written in. This would preserve common word use then that might not be how the word is used now. (An example in English. Corn used to mean anything small, like grains of salt or wheat. Now it means maize. Corned beef makes a lot more sense when you know that and you know it is cured with salt.) Get a few copies of different translations and read them, the differences can be surprising. (As a side note, the idea, that the hand of God ensures accuracy, also applies to translators.)
