Why do people become fanatics of certain things?

Obsessive behavior is an area of psychological study that is fascinating and complex. The explanation is complex, but the short form is that the human brain constantly walks a tight balance between anxiety, depression, manic behavior, aggression and just about anything else you can imagine. For many people, focusing on a puzzle that cannot be solved or a problem that goes on forever can help the individual by preventing the random thoughts from taking over. Obsessive behavior is often far better than the alternative.

What country did alcohol abuse originate from?

Undoubtedly alcohol abuse goes back to the earliest uses of alcohol, which was long before countries existed. The chances are it originated in Africa or the Middle East, as those were the first areas populated by modern humans. About how long does it take to recover from a tranquilizer addiction?

It depends on what you mean by "recover."

The actual detox from tranquilizers takes from three to six weeks, depending on the skill and experience of the physician supervising the detox. Unsupervised detox can lead to convulsions, psychotic episodes and even death.

Recovery comes after the detox, because it is still necessary to deal with the issues that caused the person to take enough to become addicted (as with any other drug, including alcohol). There are also personality and social changes that accompany addictions that must be dealt with. Otherwise, there is danger of relapse because of pressures that the recovering addict is not prepared to handle. These adjustments cannot be made while the person is still under the influence of drugs. That is why we say that recovery continues after cessation of use.

Risks of getting hep c from sex?

Hepatitis C is believed to be transmitted only by blood. However, unlike many other blood borne viruses (like HIV) virtually any source of blood or blood products seems to be capable of carrying the virus, even if the source is indirect - like a used razor, for example.

Sexual transmission during both heterosexual and homosexual sex is less common, but has been shown to have occurred in a significant number of cases. Using a condom to prevent contact with each others' body fluids reduces the risk greatly.

,,some facts and percentages have been off due to persons not admitting they did drugs.. it must have been transmitted sexually, verses admitting it was iv drug use or tattoos, ear piercing , pedicures, a hair cut,,

Why have I not gotten sick with the cold or flu since I started a Methadone program 4 years ago when I got sick all the time before that?

There could be many reasons. Off the top a guess could be that you aren't getting sick because you are no longer using street drugs or narcotics now that you are on a Methadone program. Besides an indication that your overall health is improved simply by no longer using and abusing, that can mean you are no longer out looking for a fix in a bad environment with exposure to germs that people with lowered immune system function from the strain of the drugs on their bodies, inattention to vaccinations, and avoidance of other preventive health services due to cost or so they won't be "found out", and/or infections or blood vessel damage from shooting up and/or sharing needles has caused. It can mean that you are getting more nutrition and better rest for your body to heal itself. You may be washing your hands and generally paying more attention to hygiene than you did while using.

Otherwise, there could be too many other possibilities to list, one of which is that it is only coincidence, since there are no known anti-viral properties of Methadone itself that would be making this happen.

The Goal and Purpose of Addiction Treatment?

Addiction treatment may include a program, medication, or clinic that is used in the recovery process. The psychological aspects of treatment are often focused on the most, while medication is primarily for the cleansing of toxins left in the body. Addiction treatment is effective because it gets to the root of addiction before determining a practical treatment plan. An effective treatment plan includes coming up with a positive coping strategy to avoid a possible relapse.
