What is the safest hair relaxer for caucasian hair?

As a fellow caucasian curly top who has had her hair straightened several times in the past 10 years, what I can tell you is to stay away from any sort of ethnic product (particularly those that use lye) since these are designed for very tough, afro-hair. Stick with products that use Ammonium thioglycolate (also called thio products), which acts to swell the hair cuticle and change the bonds which cause our curly hair. BEST ADVICE, tho -- just get a good cut and learn to live with those curls! Any sort of chemical process is damaging to hair, period. Also, save yourself some money and go buy a bottle of light mineral oil (available at any drugstore) and put a small amount through your curly hair -- the oil will separate and shine up those curls, and everyone will ask you where you got the "great perm"! Good luck!

What is better afro or cornrows?

It depends on the person and the shape of their head and face in regards to what would look better. In regards to which is better to handle, some would say cornrows since it takes the hair out of the way for however long one wants to wear them before re-braiding, and it doesn't have to be picked out like an Afro does.

I started mine at around 4 inches and now they are at 5.... thinking i might back comb. Either that or pull and twist method. If you start at 5 inches and back comb they will be little stubs. * Grow your hair naturally. Get rid of weaves or hair extensions, if you are using them. * Have your hair trimmed once before growing your hair out, to stimulate growth and follicle health. * Moisturize your scalp and hair regularly. Moisturizing helps prevent hair from breaking and splitting. * Use a wide-toothed comb to comb through your hair. This will encourage hair growth and prevent hair breakage. * Eat a diet rich with proteins, fruits, vegetables and nuts. These will strengthen your hair follicles. * Let your hair grow for around five to six months. Continue your routine of moisturizing and combing your hair to stimulate scalp growth. * Go to a stylist to help shape the afro into the desired shape. * Once you've grown an afro, all you need to do is to observe maintenance care, and visits to your trusted stylist.

How do you do twists with short coarse and thick hair?

Shampoo your hair and scalp with a moisturizing shampoo. Rinse and apply a conditioner, leaving it on for three minutes before rinsing with cool water. Towel your hair dry until it's slightly damp.

Part a section of your hair. Starting in the back of your head, separate a triangular shaped section of hair that you'll use for the first twist and secure the surrounding hair with a metal clip. The size of the section will determine the thickness and number of twists you want.

Apply the gel to the small section of hair. With clean fingers, scoop out a small amount of hair gel. Run just enough of the gel through the parted triangular section of hair so that it's thoroughly saturated from root to tip.

Twist the hair. Because of the shorter length of your hair, use a comb to create your twists. Place the teeth of a fine-tooth comb in the gelled section of hair, nearest to the tip. Twist the comb and the hair until the section forms a tight twist from the scalp to the ends. Continue to make parts of equal size and twist the entire head of hair.

Allow the style to dry. Use a hooded dryer or a hair dryer with a diffuser to completely dry the hair so that the gel is set. If you're allowing the gel to partially air dry, spritz the twists with hairspray so that they don't begin to unravel before they dry
