When did King Henry VIII sereve his bond with the Catholic Church and why?

King Henry the VIII officialy broke away from the Catholic church in 1533. He did so because he realized that his marriage with Cathrine of Aragon would produce no children and because he was also madly in love with Anne Boleyn.

In/around 1526, King Henry the VIII severed his ties with the Holy See ~this action became know as the Reformation. King Henry had grown tired of his marriage to Queen Catherine of Aragon, many years his senior, after she failed to produce him a male heir to the throne. Henry met and was taken with Lady Anne Boleyn, one of the Queen's ladies in waiting and petitioned the church for an annulment from Catherine on the grounds that in the eyes of God, they had never been married. Henry sued for the annulment on the grounds that Catherine's marriage to Henry's Brother Prince Arthur (deceased 1502) had been consummated (although it was never proven and Catherine denied it adamantly) Pope Clement VII denied the request, declaring the marraige legal. This led Henry to Denounce the pope and declare himself head of the church of England. Henry exiled Catherine and disinherited their only child, Mary. Henry was then free to marry Lady Anne Boleyn in a secret ceremony in late 1532 immediately upon Henry's return from France where he was seeking support for the marriage from King Francis. A public ceremony was held on Jan 25, 1533 and Anne Boleyn was crowned Queen Consort on June 1, 1533. Their only child, Elizabeth, was born on September 7, 1533.

What was the name of the church that England created when they broke away from the Roman Catholic Church?

Anglican Catholic Answer

There was no Church created in England and England was never part of the Roman Catholic Church. The Church in England was some 1500 years old and was a particular church within the Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church. She never broke away from it. The only Church that was created around this time was the Holy Roman Church and this stemmed from the Council of Trent, (1564,) arriving in England in 1570 AD, as part of the failed Coup by the papacy, this was some 12 years after Eliza's accession to the throne and Henry was long dead.
?Roman Catholic AnswerIts name was and is The Church of England. All the Catholic bishops, save one, refused to go along with the suppression of the Church and allegiance to the new church established by the King. The faithful were denied the sacraments and forced, legally, to attend Protestant services. The practice of the Catholic faith was forbidden by law, and many people were martyred. All Catholic property from parish churches to monasteries were seized by the King.

from A Catholic Dictionary, edited by Donald Attwater, Second edition, revised 1957

The Church of England is the official name of the official established religion of the realm of England; it is a form of Protestantism that evolved and took shape from 1535 onwards, and was definitely established by an act of parliament called the Act of Uniformity, which took effect from June 24, 1559, and by the Act of Supremacy of the same year which denied the ecclesiastical supremacy of the Holy See and vested all English ecclesiastical jurisdiction in the Crown. The act of Uniformity imposed use of the second Prayer Book of Edward VI on the clergy and attendance at its service on the laity. The primatial see of Canterbury was vacant, but all the bishops except one refused compliance with these acts and their sees were declared vacant. A new hierarchy was then formed, from the bishops of which subsequent Anglican orders are derived. In 1563 the new church adopted certain articles of religion known as the Thirty-Nine Articles which confirmed its Protestant character and its dependence on the state; in practice, bishops of this church are nominated by the prime minster, who consults the ecclesiastical dignitaries. The Church of England is in possession of the buildings, properties and endowments which were provided for Catholic usages: the same is true of the Protestant Churches of Ireland and Wales, which are now disestablished, and of the Established Church of Scotland, which is presbyterian in organization.

BEING AN ACTIVE EPISCOPALIAN I CAN TELL YOU THAT WOMEN AS WELL AS WOMEN PRIESTS ARE ACCORDED MORE RESPONSIBILITIES AND EQUALITY THAn WOMEN that ARE IN CONSERVATIVE PROTESTANT CHURCHES LIKE THE PENTECOSTALS AND SOUTHERN BAPTISTS AS WELL as THE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH WHICH OF COURSE REFUSES TO ALLOW WOMEN TO ANSWER THE CALL TO THE PRIESTHOOD. The Anglican Church or Church of England did spread beyond England. For two centuries before WWII, England was the world's super power. With imperialism, England's government colonized in other countries, and therefore, brought their clergy who spread the gospel and made converts. Today, many indigenous cultures highly resent the colonization and religious conversion of their tribal ancestors. For example, Australian Aborigines, and the New Zealand Maori have fought for the right to return to and preserve their ancestral and spiritual beliefs and methods of healing.
