I have two Fred Hines pictures, 8x10. "The Brook" and "The River". They belonged to my Grandmother, how long Im not sure but they are quite old. Can you tell me if their worth? I believe they are prints.

Captain Moonlite was one of Australia's notorious bushrangers. Captain Moonlite/Moonlight, aka Andrew George Scott, was originally a preacher at the small Victorian town of Egerton. He was an admirer of Ned Kelly, and he made a sudden decision to become a bushranger. His first target was the manager of the Egerton Bank, who was fully aware of Scott's identity. Scott tied him up, with orders to tell police he had been robbed by Captain Moonlight.

Scott was caught and imprisoned at Ballarat. After he was releaseed from gaol, he continued his new bushranging career. He recruited several other gang members and walked to New South Wales. Some stories claim he was hoping to find employment at Wantabadgery Station, well known for its hospitality. Being in the grip of a severe drought, and also having changed hands, Wantabadgery could offer them nothing. In desperation, Moonlite took 35 people hostage. In the resultant shootout with police on 18 November 1879, gang members James Nesbitt and Augustus Wernicke, together with Constable Bowen, were all shot dead. Moonlite and the surviving gang members were tried and charged with the murder of Constable Bowen. Moonlite was hanged on 20 January 1880 at Darlinghurst Court.

Well, you try and find a signature. If there isn't one located, using UV light (remember to wear goggles!), scan the light on the whole picture/painting and try to find any markings. If these don't work, see what style it is..and search the internet for an artist that uses that style to paint

AP's are therefore #0 in the edition and worth more (sometimes a little, sometimes a lot, depending on the artist) than the numbered limited edition prints that follow.

OR, if we're going to be real about it, it is generally the perception of the buyer. In many cases, it is a result of mere incompetence or good marketing and PR. The quality of work, unfortunately, is rarely what drives the price.

Less than it cost, ignoring inflation! But, as its a plate of quality, might well sell for over £20, but only to the one that ones to pay that much.

They may of been limited editions, but over 150 days, and supplied by more than one 'collection' company. Westminster, WS George, etc. Ebay is a good place to start for pricing, but not worth the thousands you might be hoping for...

from an artist: tilt the painting sideways in the light. Are there definite variations in the surface, like brush strokes and places where the paint is thicker than others? If so, it is probably authentic unless someone used the artist's name. If the canvas is perfectly flat with no texture to speek of it is most likely a print.

When you mix pink and white you get a lighter pink and if you mix black with pink you get a darker pink.
