What is Australia's education like?
Im in my final year of highschool now and I can easily describe to you school life ion Australia :)
School days start at around 9:00 and end anywhere between 3:00 and 3:30. Depending on what part of Australia you are talking about, the number of students attending school varies. Eg rural, country Aus can hold as little as 30 students!! Of course, I'm talking about areas in the NT, central Australia or small coastal towns etc.
Lessons taught at school varies. There's usua;lly always a very big range. As well as the usual Maths, English, science (ew!!), most highschools offer metal work, wood work, textiles, music, art, drama, agriculture, marine studies, P.D, (personal development, like sport and health etc) languages etc
School is very casual. Not all students attend everyday (although I strongly advise against this) and home study isn't as focused as other countries I suppose. Although Australia has some very talented and academic students throughout the country, it's usually not as important as the rugby game on saturday to most people. This can change in senior years.
As for the actual students... This also varies throughout the country. In the city, school is very multi cultural. There's not usually a lot of culture along the coastal areas though. I live and attend a coastal school and I think its excellent! Especially for sport. Lessons are often held on the beach and swimming is put into our school curriculum. Science is very focused at my school due to the surrounding ocean and vast amount of land to study.
There's always going to be certain 'clicks' or 'in-crowds'. Bullying still occurs unfortunately. But at the same time, there's always going to be that strong willed person who will stick up for others. Bullies in Australia get told!
So I in conclusion, school in Australia is chilled, fun and quite pleasant!
