Patrick Depailler's last Formula 1 race was on July 13, 1980. It was the Marlboro British Grand Prix at Brands Hatch. He started 8th and finished 21st due to engine failure.
Depailler was killed on August 1, 1980, while testing for the German Grand Prix.
Several seasons ago the race broadcast was cutting back and forth between live shots of drivers and crews waiting out a rain delay around the track. An overhead camera showed Chad Knaus behind a pit box smoking a cigarette. The directer cut to another shot and none of the broadcasters mentioned anything about it. This is not to say that he currently smokes, but at least at one point he had.

Well, there are a few different ways. First, there are schools, that advertise in certain car magazines, ie. Hot Rodf, Car Craft, ect., that can help. However, you have to take their course. If you are already a mechanic, build a car, and hang out at the drags. That is the old school way. Another way would be to apply for a job at your local track, or even start out volunteering. Hot lap is a term used for a test drive. It's where they let drivers take the car on the track and see how the car and the track handle before a race. It is often only a few laps and less cars on the track at a time then during a normal race. Cars are not required to do hot laps but, it is a good idea since track conditions change all the time. By doing a test drive or "Hot Laps" before a race it allows drivers to see how the car will handle in a safer way then just making them race the car. This way they can make changes to the car before the race begins. Hot laps allows driver and crews to make the race safer and car go faster.

The 24 Hours of Le Mans was first run on May 26 and 27, 1923, through public roads around Le Mans. Originally planned to be a three year event awarded the Rudge Whitworth Triennial Cup, with a winner being declared by the car which could go the farthest distance over three consecutive 24 Hour races, this idea was abandoned in 1928 and overall winners were declared for each single year depending on who covered the farthest distance by the time 24 hours were up. The early races were dominated by French, British, and Italian drivers, teams, and cars, with Bugatti, Bentley, and Alfa Romeo being the dominant marques. Innovations in car design began appearing at the track in the late 1930s, with Bugatti and Alfa Romeo running highly aerodynamic bodywork in order to run down the Mulsannes Straight at faster speeds. In 1936 the race was cancelled due to general strikes in France, then with the outbreak of World War II in late 1939, the race went on a ten year hiatus while France reconstructed itself.

The only V-8 that will physically bolt up to your trans is a Cadillac Northstar, though the '84 trans probably wouldn't last for long behind a V-8 anyway.
