What if you think you have celiac disease but tests come back negative?

If you've been having bad reactions to foods containing gluten, you may not have celiac disease, but rather, you could be gluten intolerant. The difference is that with celiac disease, you are so highly allergic to the gluten that it actually damages the tissue in the body, causing irreversible damage. With gluten intolerance, you are still "allergic" to gluten, but not to the degree of structural damage to the body. Instead you get side-effects such as bloating, pain, headaches, tiredness and fatigue, etc. My guess is that if you've had these (and probably other) side effects and you've had tests done to see if it is celiac disease, the fact that the tests have come back negative is a strong indication that you're most likely gluten-intolerant. I have just been diagnosed with being gluten-intolerant and my daughter too!) myself, and we have been able to avoid all the side-effects and have had a lot of relief by no longer including gluten-containing products in my diet.

Can you lose large amounts of blood with Crohns disease?

It can appear you are bleeding to death when you lose blood through the rectum during a bowel movement. It is not usually the case. Blood in the toilet bowl always looks like more than it really is because it is diluted with the water in the toilet. You can lose blood from the bowel and this should be treated by a doctor.

Can Guillain Barre syndrome be mistaken for MS?

GBS affects the peripheral nerves while MS affects the central nerves. A neuro examination should determine if the cause was peripheral or central. GBS is an acute illness which, by definition, is at its worse within 42 days after onset of symptoms. Patients with MS demonstrate a very slow decline over an extended period. There is a related chronic condition to GBS called CIDP which affects the peripheral nerves but shows a slow decline, sometimes relapsing. For more info on GBS/CIDP go www.gbs.org.uk.

Raynauds disease disability comp?

I highly doubt it. No one's ever told me that & I've got Raynaud's. Because it's simply related to temperatures then there is no real long-term threat as one can always go inside and warm up.

I have, however, found some improvement in my disease through holistic blood analysis, body cleansing (inside) and changing my diet alot (removing some products and adding others) and increasing exercise (level of heart rate & circulation, etc). I still use mitts, Hotshots, etc. but have improved alot. Very pleased.

What are the symptoms of Crohn's disease?

AnswerAbdominal pain, often in the lower right area, and diarrhea. Rectal bleeding, weight loss and fever may also occur. Also...The symptoms of Crohn's are similar to those of colitis, ulcers, and appendicitis. Medical diagnosis is required to determine if Crohn's is the cause of the symptoms. More informationCrohn's disease causes a variety of symptoms including but not exclusive to the following.

Abdominal pain. Patients may experience cramps, achy or even sharp pains in the affected area.

Most often, a patient with Crohns disease will experience these pains on the lower right of the abdomen just below the bellybutton. The reason this happens is that in the majority of cases of Crohns disease it is the terminal ileum that is involved first. The terminal ileum is where the large and small bowels join. The terminal ileum crosses from left to right just above the belt line.

The type of pain experienced by the patient depends on what part of the gastrointestinal tract is affected.

Disease in the terminal ileum is characterized by sharp pain while disease higher up in the colon is generally noted by cramps and pain. Pain is often relieved temporarily by a bowel movement.

Diarrhea is often associated with Crohns disease. Frequent, loose, watery bowel movements Often accompanied by thick dark blood and sometimes with mucus and bubbly yellow froth.

Because Crohn's is an inflammatory disease one of the key characteristics is fever.

During an acute flare up, one patient will have a high fever while others may present with a low grade but persistent fever, often breaking during the night resulting in night sweats.

A number of symptoms not related to the gastro intestinal tract may also present with a flare up of Crohns disease. These can occur weeks or months before the intestinal symptoms are noticed.

Sores inside the mouth.

Joint pain often migrating from knees, elbows, ankles and wrists (migrating arthralgia).

Reddening and inflammation of the eyes (Irititis)

Skin lesions including sore red nodules on the shins or calves of the leg (Erythema Nodosum)

Symptoms of Chron's disease can come on suddenly and they include: abdominal pain, weight loss, nasea, diarrhea, and cramping. The symptoms change over time and are different for everyone with the disease.
