What was larger Sumer or Hammurabi's Empire?

That is not the way historians see it. After conquering all the Sumerian city-states, Sargon I united them with Akkad, and created the world's first empire. Sargon II did the rest. Babylonia was the capital city and it emerged as a major power when Hammurabi created an empire out of the territories of the former Akkadian Empire.

The code on your Remington 510 is PH so when was your rifle made?

Remington Owners,

Remington Year of Manufacture Codes maybe found on the barrel of your Remington rifle [or shotgun] on the left side, just forward of the receiver; the first letter of the Code is the month of manufacture, followed by one or two letters which are the year of manufacture. For shotguns with removeable barrels, the code will be valid for the manufacture of the barrel; maybe for the receiver, as barrels do get switched around.

According to the "Blue Book of Gun Values", the coding continues as follows:

Month Codes: [first letter]

Babylon became an important center of trade because it was?

While the Median kingdom controlled the highland region, the Chaldeans, with their capital at Babylon, were masters of the Fertile Crescent. Nebuchadnezzar, becoming king of the Chaldeans in 604 B.C., raised Babylonia to another epoch of brilliance after more than a thousand years of eclipse. By defeating the Egyptians in Syria, Nebuchadnezzar ended their hopes of re-creating their empire. As we have seen (p. 29), he destroyed Jerusalem in 586 B.C. and carried thousands of Jews captive to Babylonia. Nebuchadnezzar reconstructed Babylon, making it the largest and most impressive city of its day. The tremendous city walls were wide enough at the top to have rows of small houses on either side. In the center of Babylon ran the famous Procession Street, which passed through the Ishtar Gate. This arch, which was adorned with brilliant tile animals, is the best remaining example of Babylonian architecture. The immense palace of Nebuchadnezzar towered terrace upon terrace, each resplendent with masses of ferns, flowers, and trees. These roof gardens, the famous Hanging Gardens of Babylon, were so beautiful that they were regarded by the Greeks as one of the seven wonders of the ancient world.

-

Nebuchadnezzar also rebuilt the great temple-tower or ziggurat, the Biblical "Tower of Babel," which the Greek historian Herodotus viewed a century later and described as a tower of solid masonry, a furlong [220 yards] in length and breadth, upon which was raised a second tower, and on that a third, and so on up to eight. The ascent to the top is on the outside, by a path which winds round all the towers.

-

Nebuchadnezzar was the last great Mesopotamian ruler, and Chaldean power quickly crumbled after his death in 562 B.C. The Chaldean priests - whose interest in astrology so greatly added to the fund of Babylonian astronomical

Knowledge that the word "Chaldean" came to mean astronomer - continually undermined the monarchy. Finally, in 539 B.C., they opened the gates of Babylon to Cyrus the Persian, thus fulfilling Daniel's message of doom upon the notorious Belshazzar, the last Chaldean ruler: "You have been weighed in the balances and found wanting" (Dan. 5:27).

What is Babylon The Great in Revelation?

A symbol for the Roman Empire, which was killing Christians at the time Revelation was written. That is how it has been interpreted throughout Christian history.

It is a type of writing called "Apocalyptic literature" which ALWAYS uses symbolism to deal with a PRESENT crisis. The number "666" works out by a rather simple number-letter substitution to "Nero Caesar." And it is very clear that the original author intended the number to be understood by his original readers - not to be a conundrum for 2000 years.

Although some anti-Catholics equate "Babylon" with the Catholic Church, that idea did not exist until the mid-1800s, and the vast majority of Christians throughout history knew nothing of it. There is nothing in the text to even SUGGEST that it is referring to a church; and the idea is especially foolish when you realize that it is the Catholic Church that placed the Book of Revelation into the Bible in the first place.

Do you think Mystery Babylon The Great could be the USA, as many of the prophecy teachers of today are saying? If it is, it doesn't look well for the US in the end of this age, which I believe we are entering in, if not already there.

Answer

There is a "special" text in Revelation 18 which gives us a clue as to who Babylon the Great is. In Revelation 18:23 it says ... "the light of a candle shall shine no more at all in thee; and the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride shall be heard no more at all in thee." ... What does the light of a candle and the Bridegroom represent in the Bible? The light of Jesus Christ. The Bible elsewhere identifies Jesus as being the Bridegroom, and we Christians are the bride.

So if the voice of Jesus is not to be heard ANY MORE in Babylon, then He must have been heard at some stage in her. Which means Babylon MUST BE a professing Christian church. Because no other religion or institution proclaims Jesus Christ as the Saviour and "light" of the world. Only Christianity does.

So let's look at the rest of the description of Babylon in Revelation 17:

- Sits on many waters (supported by many people)

- Kings have committed fornication with her (kings have helped her commit her crimes)

- Inhabitants of earth made drunk with her wine (earth deceived by her doctrines)

- She sits on beast with 7 heads (she sits on a place of 7 hills/mountains)

- She is arrayed in Purple and Scarlet (her main colours are Purple and Scarlet)

- She is decked with Gold and Precious stones (She is rich)

- She is the MOTHER of harlots (she is regarded as the MOTHER church)

- She is drunk with the blood of the saints (she has killed many Christians)

- She reigns over the kings of the earth (she has power over the leaders of other nations)

Only one professing Christian church matches this description, and that is the Papal Church of Rome.

How was Babylon under the control of Nebuchadnezzar II?

Nebuchadnezzar was the oldest son and successor of Nabopolassar,who delivered Babylon from its three centuries of vassalage to its fellow Mesopotamian state, Assyria, and in alliance with the Medes, Persians, Scythians, and Cimmerians, laid Nineveh in ruins. According to Berossus, some years before he became king of Babylon, Babylonian dynasties were united. There are conflicting accounts of Nitocris of Babylon being either his wife or daughter. Nabopolassar was intent on annexing the western provinces of Syria (ancient Aram) from Necho II (whose own dynasty had been installed as vassals of Assyria, and who was still hoping to help restore Assyrian power), and to this end dispatched his son westward with a large army. In the ensuing Battle of Carchemish in 605 BC, the Egyptian andAssyrianarmy was defeated and driven back, and the region of Syria and Phoenicia were brought under the control of Babylon. Nabopolassar died in August that year, and Nebuchadnezzar returned to Babylon to ascend the throne. After the defeat of the Cimmerians and Scythians, previous allies in the defeat of Assyria, Nebuchadnezzar's expeditions were directed westward. The powerful Median empire lay to the north. Nebuchadnezzar's political marriage to Amytis of Media, the daughter of theMedianking, had ensured peace between the two empires.

Is Hammurabi's code a decree?

King Hammurabi led Semitic speaking invaders from the Arabian Desert and entered into southern Mesopotamia around 1900 BC BCE. They conquered other city states in the Tigris Euphrates Valley and formed the Babylonian Empire. They adopted and built upon the preceding Sumerian culture.

Guided by Hammurabi the people recorded their laws and customs. It would be difficult to classify their functions of this as a "decree". It is important to note that this became the oldest legal system of its time.

What the code reveals is:

A. a stern system of justice; demanding severe punishments for crimes;

B. it established a sharp division of people classes, it showed that crimes against the higher classes deserved harsher penalties then crimes against the common people;

C. it demanded fair treatment of women; as example, women were permitted to own property and conduct business as did men;

Based on this the Babylonians marked off their place in ancient history. The Babylonians made progress in areas of astronomy & literature.

Their empire is said to have lasted until about 1700 BC BCE.

Who stole the code of Hammurabi?

How did Hammurabi contibute to the rise of democracy?

Hammurabi's code of laws, called the Hammurabi code, contributed to democracy even though they were related to law more than politics, because it's severity was constant

for everyone. If an aristocrat killed a peasant's brother, than that peasant had the right to kill the aristocrat's brother while he watched. This is similar to the idea of "an eye for an eye". Hope this helps!

Who built hanging gardens and a magnificent ziggurat?

Accounts indicate that the garden was built by King Nebuchadnezzar, who ruled the city for 43 years starting in 605 BC (There is an alternative story that the gardens were built by the Assyrian Queen Semiramis during her five year reign starting in 810 BC). This was the height of the city's power and influence and King Nebuchadnezzar is known to have constructed an astonishing array of temples, streets, palaces and walls. According to accounts, the gardens were built to cheer up Nebuchadnezzar's homesick wife, Amyitis. Amyitis, daughter of the king of the Medes, was married to Nebuchadnezzar to create an alliance between the two nations. The land she came from, though, was green, rugged and mountainous, and she found the flat, sun-baked terrain of Mesopotamia depressing. The king decided to relieve her depression by recreating her homeland through the building of an artificial mountain with rooftop gardens.

Persian Royal Road, ancient road running from Susa, the ancient capital of Persia, across Anatolia to the Aegean Sea, a distance of more than 1,500 miles (2,400 km). Royal messengers, who, according to the Greek historian Herodotus, were stopped by "neither snow, nor rain, nor heat, nor gloom of night," traversed the entire road in nine days, thanks to a system of relays. Normal travel time was about three months. Alexander the Great made use of the Royal Road in his invasion and conquest of the Persian Empire. It was modified after the occupation of Babylon.
