Bagpipes

The sound of the drones is produced by reeds at the base of each drone pipe and the sound of the chanter comes from a reed at the top of the chanter.

The bagpipes have three drones, and the other is called the chanter. This is the part that the piper covers various holes with his fingers to produce the melody.

This depends on the temperature.

I am not sure if there is a shop in Edmonton (Canada?) but I do know that there is a pipes and drums band close if not in edmonton. They will be able to tell you. Look for them on the Internet.

Yes, although because pipes developed independantly of other instruments they are different to something like a clarinet, but they are still fundamentally a woodwind instrument.

The wood used to make the Highland Bagpipe is African Blackwood. There are some made out of other woods but I dont know any piper who plays with anything other than Blackwood.

Like anything, it's worth whatever you can get for it. Being from the 1990's though I'd guess plenty were made and available and have dropped in value. You may want to check eBay's past auctions to get an idea of what they're selling for though.

The bagpipe was invented in the middle east.The Old Testament mentions the instrument in the book of Daniel chapter 3, where it is listed as one of the instruments that was used to call the people to worship a golden statue that king Nebuchadnezzar had set up.

Though there is Debate over Where it originated from.. The Bagpipes is now considered The Instrument of the Scotti/Celtic Clan (Scotland, Ireland etc etc.)

Many if not most cultures around the world have had a form of bagpipes in their cultural history, as such its hard to pin down where and who the first set came from, but the earliest evidence of bagpipes is from about 1000BC.

I doubt they were just laying around for someone to discover on an expedition. It is more likely that humans made the first set of bagpipes.

Bagpipes have one to four drones.

The Great Highland Bagpipe (the one most commonly played) has three drones - one bass and two tenor. The player can play without any drones sounding or with any combination of the three.
