It is public knowledge that it is tolerable to sunbathe naked at a nudist beach. It is not tolerated anywhere else other than nudist resorts, and there are children around. It may be excusable to go topless in some beaches.

An easy and highly effective way of repeling them is using a skin so soft product, (moistureizer, etc.) It repels them and also leaves your skin... well, so soft. Even though this product is not meant for them it works very well.

I also hear that puttin blue listerene on your skin repels them, although if you have sunburnt skin like me I cant imagine that, that would feel as nice as skin so soft.

The first landings on Juno had 32 tanks to support them, this made a huge difference. Also many Special Forces landed alongside the Canadians and accomplished many different tasks. The Canadian Infantry made more headway and 'owned' more of France at the end of the first day, than any other beach.

There were 5 Beaches. Gold, Juno & Sword were British/Canadian/British. Utah & Omaha were US. Omaha was referred to as 'Bloody Omaha' because of the (Relatively) high casualty rate, the infantry were caught in enfilade fire from the defenders, but it was still a successful landing.

It's warm enough. It's not nearly as warm as the waters off the coast of Georgia or Florida or South Carolina, but it's not unpleasantly cold, like the waters off the coast of Cape Cod or Maine. It feels cold when you first get in, but you get used to it quickly.

New York is probably the furthest north you can get before the water becomes too cold to swim comfortably in the summer.

I went to Cape Cod in June once. Of course, in June the water hasn't had much chance to warm up yet -- it's warmest at the end of the summer, in August to mid-September -- but still, it was unbearably cold. I went in for just 10 minutes -- that'll all I could stand -- and when I came out my feet had turned purplish-blue from the cold already.

Then I swam off the coast of Georgia, in August. It was like bathwater. The water was literally lukewarm. It didn't feel cold at all, not even when I first got in.

The waters off the coast of New York are somewhere in between these two extremes: it's not luxuriously warm, but it's not unbearably cold, either.
