What is the top selling beer in England?
Carling claims to be the best-selling beer in Britain, the claim is repeated on Wikipedia (without a source) but those claims may be outdated. According to an article from 2005, "Carling has been the nation's best-selling beer since the 1970s. Among UK lagers it has 22 per cent of the market, well ahead of Fosters (16 per cent) and Stella Artois (15 per cent)."
http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/health-and-wellbeing/health-news/the-lager-that-swallowed-a-nation-516054.html
According to this About.com article from 2008, Stella Artois had been the best-selling lager in Britain for a few years, before being beaten by Carlsberg recently. (But, according to the article, even that has been debated)
http://beer.about.com/b/2008/04/09/which-is-britains-best-beer.htm
Yet another source I have claims that Newcastle is the winner, but with no stats I'm willing to dismiss that out of hand.
So, I suppose it's a highly debatable question, but I'm willing to give the crown to Carlsberg for the moment seeing as their reference was backed up and the most recent.
Americans consume 15.7 million gallons of beer and ale each day is this a lot?
Depends on how you look at it. 15.7 million gallons is indeed a lot.
But the U.S. population according to the 2000 census was 281,421,906.
That comes to .0557 gallons per person in the entire country. That is definitely NOT a lot.
However, some of those people are definitely underage. Let's assume (hah!) that no one drinks who is not legally allowed to. Further since some states allow drinking at 18 and others not until 21 (and since I'm not going to research THAT deeply) let's eliminate everybody under the age of 20.
Again, according to the 2000 census, there were 96,808,352 males and 104,140,229 females for a total of 200,948,581 people age 20 or older. I'm also NOT going to research how much men drink compared to women, so for the sake of the math (and my two typing fingers) let's just say it's about even.
SO - 15.7 million gallons of beer consumed by 200,648,581 people comes to only .0781 gallons per person. Still not a whole lot.
The table shown here: http://www.britannica.com/eb/table?tocId=9390287
(showing that my math is somewhat faulty) gives the consumption of various alcoholic beverages per capita in liters and will give you some idea of our consumption habits when related to the rest of the world. A liter is a little more than a quart - YOU do the math!
Hope this answers your question. I'm through. I'm going to go have a beer!
A "slab" or "case" of beer is usually 24 bottles or cans. In some places, cans come in 18 or 30 packs; these are not usually referred to as "slabs."

How much sugar is in a can of beer?
Most beer has no sugar at all. The sugars have been converted into alcohol.
Taken from a popular advert but actually not true most beers contain quite a lot of sugar that's why if you spill beer it leaves behind the sugar when it dries leaving a very sticky mess. But it all depends on the beer and lagered beer contain even more sugar. If you take an average pint of beer is around 180 Calories and a level spoonful of sugar is 15 calories you will see and average pint is around 12 teaspoons of sugar. If you want to test your drink for sugar spill some and let it dry see what is left when the water and alcohol is gone. If you could turn all the sugar to alcohol beer would be around 30% proof and used to power the space shuttle.
=[http://www.ukcider.co.uk cider]= Yes cider is acidic but the acidity varies quite a lot depending on the variety of cider apples pressed. Bramleys for example, are very acidic. Also if there is a malo-lactic secondary fermentation then this reduces acidity. If the cider starts to turn to vinegar, then it wil become very acidic with acetic acid.
