Can 4 beers get a boy who is 15 drunk?

Depends on the alcohol content, how quickly it was consumed and the physical size of the drinker. Interestingly, research has indicated that the amount of alcohol required to have physical manifestations of drunkeness in teens is much higher than that of adults...so just because your kid is not acting "drunk" he could still be well lit. This explains why the parents of teen alcoholics nearly never know about it until it is too late.

What does IBU mean in beer?

IBU stands for International Bitterness Units and is a standardised measure of the bitterness of beer set by the European Brewing Convention (EBC). The bitterness of beer comes from alpha acids found in hops; the concentration of alpha acids is directly proportional to the theoretical bitterness of the beer. This concentration can be measure in a laboratory and hence a figure assigned to the bitterness of the beer. A standard oz lager would be around 20IBU, a very hoppy IPA would easily reach 70+ BU's

Care however must be taken. The perceived bitterness of beer determined by the toungue will be reduced by the sensation of sweetness from residual sugar also found in the beer. The balance between sweetness and bitterness determines the balance of the beer and is part of the brewers art. It is the trend in the US particularly to produce very hoppy beers well into the 100's however most of these beers also have very high residual sugar which means the beer retains at least some drinkability.

A very light beer like Corona would have about 10BU which balances the small amount of residual sugar. If you were to have 50 BU's in corona it would be undrinkably bitter, however 50BU in a high gravity IPA would be very palatable.

How big is a average bottle?

Liquor is sold in sizes based on the "fifth." A fifth is 1/5 Gallon or 4/5 Quart or 750mL (approximately - see below). A pint is 375mL (a real pint is actually 500mL [again, see below] ) or half of a fifth. Liquor bottles are general sold, however, in 750mL bottles.

In addition, there is a larger size, often known as a "forty." It is 40 fluid ounces (and, correspondingly, 40 servings), which works out to 1.14L.

Alright so this dude who wrote the second paragraph is either a) 3 sheets to the wind because he's had too many 40s or b) being ironic. In either case, a forty (40 oz) is a measure by which malt beverages are sold, this being opposed to distilled beverages, or liquor, which is sold by the measures outlined in the first paragraph of this answer. I would also note that a real pint is not 500mL, unless Jupiter is aligned with Mars, in which case it is, peace will come to the planets, and love will heal the stars. Ok, so it's close--473.18--but that 26.82mL can make a difference, know wh'msay'n?

Okay - Apparently the guy who wrote in the 3rd paragraphisn't completely familiar with all the options for purchasing distilled beverages, or liquor. Yes, a "forty" is a familiar term for a large bottle of malt liquor, but you can, in fact, buy liquor such as whiskey, rum, and vodka in a 1.14L container, called a "forty." (Although I believe that 1.14 L is actually about 39 oz.) An even larger bottle is available in the form of a "sixty," which contains 1.75 L. At least the is the case here, in Canada; things may differ in your area. As for the question of the pint, well, an imperial pint is something like 568 mL, an american liquid pint is about 473 mL, and an american dry pint is about is about 551 mL. Historically, in some European locations, a pint was well over a Liter. (Hence, part of the reason that so many of us switched to the metric system.) I think we can all agree that a pint is not 375 mL.

Why is beer tasty?

Actually, many people consider Guinness to be an acquired taste; that is, few people like it the first time they try it. The special flavor qualities that make it unique often turn people off the first few times they have it until they develop a liking to it. There are a few things that contribute to Guinness's unique flavor, not the least of which is sour beer -- yikes! It's hard to believe, but about three percent of every new batch of Guinness is sour Guinness -- beer that has been boiled down to about half of its initial volume and then "vinegarized." Also, if you've ever had the pleasure of drinking Guinness Extra Stout on draught, then you've experienced that incredible rich, creamy head that never seems to dissipate. They get that by using special Guinness taps that inject nitrogen gas into the beer, which, together with the the carbon dioxide carbonation, create the most unique head known to man. A common misconception about Guinness is that it's a heavy beer. It's not, really. There are far fewer calories in a pint of Guinness than many other genuinely heavy beers.
