Biofuel

Biofuels are a source of energy derived from living organisms that have not been extracted from sequestered reserves in the earth and whose natural emissions have a neutral impact on the environment.

Can diesel replace kerosene to operate a space heater?

Deisel would burn too dirty...sooty. kerosene is much lighter hydro carbon and burns cleaner

What is bio-gas?

Biogas is usually methane which is collected from animal manure and other organic material which gives off methane as it decomposes anaerobically (that is, without air).

If this gas is collected in a centralized plant it can be used to create energy by generating electricity.

Any residue is available as an organic fertilizer which is less harmful than chemical fertilizers. Biogas consists of methane and is thus the same kind of gas to natural gas. The difference is how it is formed. Natural gas is stored in the earth's crust as oil, while biogas is renewable and is made of organic material. The material (eg sewage sludge, manure, meat and catering waste) rots in an oxygen-free environment and in the process forms a gas composed of methane and carbon dioxide. The gas is purified from carbon dioxide and the remaining is a gas consisting of 97 percent methane that can be used as a vehicle fuel or to generate electricity. Biogas is a renewable biofuel, and is classified as one of our cleanest fuels. If biogas is used as vehicle fuel instead of gasoline it reduces emissions and the use of fossil oil. Biogas is formed in a natural degradation process of biological material, and, unlike petrol and diesel, is a renewable energy source that is part of nature's cycle.

What is biodiesel used for?

Biodiesel is meant to be used in standard diesel engines. However, other uses could be cleaning up oil spills, generating electricity, heating your home, cooking, illumination, cleaning up tools and grease, removing paint and adhesives, asphalt cleanup agent, hand cleaner, screen printing ink remover, auto wax remover, corrosion preventative, and metal working lubricant.

Is thought is thing?

Thought is not a thing because thought is the past tense of think For example : I thought we will put the project in the index card.

What would I have to do to my 1990's Rav 4 to have it run on Biodiesel or a Biodiesel mix?

Assuming its a diesel...then you dont have to do anything. As long as you make good quality filtered biodiesel. I've been making it for a while. Bought a 150L kit from Scintex Biofuels. www.scintex.com.au Havent had any troubles running biodiesel on my GQ Patrol but i always filter down to 1uM just to make sure my fuel filters dont get clogged. Out.

What is biodiesel?

Biodiesel is a fuel derived from plants. It is an alternative fuel to standard fossil fuels, that can be made from fats and vegetable oils. It contains no petroleum or petroleum-products. If made correctly, it can be used in diesel engines with few or no modifications.

The diesel engine as we know it today was originally designed to run on mineral oil, but was able to operate on vegetable oil just as well, later Mr Diesel agreed that peanut oil was a viable alternative. The french government sponsored the peanut oil alternative at the 1900 Paris Exhibition. Vegetable oil, (essentially the original biodiesel), rather than the petroleum-based diesel fuels that tend to be used today was the fuel of choice for the engine. There was even a push to use Hemp oil; manufacturing processes were even perfected for its use before it was banned.

What is a bio box?

A bio box is a room overlooking a theatre from a back, from with projection, lighting and sound are controlled.

Can a Toyota Previa run on bio-diesel?

of course...as long as ur previa is the diesel one...

Is kerosene the same as diesel?

What is the capability of water hyacinth eicchornia crassipes as a alternative biofuel?

Water hyacinth is certainly a promising resource for producing biofuels and synfuels (synthetic fuels). It can be produced/managed in natural, restored and constructed wetlands. The major advantage is its high biomass yields, much superior than any other aquatic or terrestrial macrophytes. The challenge is the huge water content in fresh biomass, that must be previously removed to provide a highly efficient and attractive Biomass-to-Liquids (BTL) resource.

From the point of view of Life Cycle Analysis (LCA), water hyacinth has also a series of advantages for the production of biofuels. Basically it is non-food resource; it can be produced worldwide, for instance in wastewater plants; it does not compete for food production in croplands. And several other depending upon the type of wetland...

Is diesel better?

Yes, they get better mileage, more torque, and are cleaner burning. You can tow twice that with a diesel pickup than you could with a gas pickup.

Diesel cars get amazing mileage. 55mpg for a volkswagen Jetta TDI.

Is hydrogen a bio-fuel?

No. Hydrogen is not derived from biological sources. It is produced by electrolysis of water.

How do you make Bio-diesel fuel?

It is made by taking vegetable oil and mixing it with an alcohol eg. methanol, and a catalyst, usually potassium hydroxide [cuastic soda] at a temperature of 140F or 55 deg C to cause a chain reaction known as transerification, whereby the free fatty acids are made into esters. The byproduct is a crude form of glycerine that can be cleaned up and made into soap etc, or composted. The process can can also be done using waste veg oil and therefor helps with waste recycling. The resulting biofuel gives off far less emissions than mineral fuel and is classed as Co2 neutral, as it only gives off the same amount of Co2 as the plant took in while in growth. The fuel can be used in most diesel vehicles without modification, and mixes readily with conventional fuel. Power and mileage are little different, but its lubricity is far greater than low sulpher diesel, and it is used by many countries at a level of about 5% in forecourt fuel to help with lubrication and the environment. UK will have 2.5% in2008 and 5% added in 2009. Production costs mean it is only slightly cheaper than mineral diesel at the pumps, but with care and understanding it can be produced in your workshop for private use. the cost of this is considerably less. In the UK you can currently produce up to 2500 litres a year for your own use without having to pay road fuel duty. There is a Yahoo group that dry washes that makes it a lot easier. http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/biodieselhouston

Is biodiesel and biofuel the same?

Biodiesel is one kind of biofuel. There are other kinds of biofuels too.

What is the definition of non-mechanical energy?

energy that is produced by non-mechanical means, meaning nothing to do with machines.

What is bio sensor?

it is a device that consisting of immobilized layer of biological materials like enzymes, antibody, hormone, nucleic acid, organelles or a whole cell and its contacts with a sensor. The sensor converts the biological signals into electrical signals. It is used medicine and industry.

For example:blood glucose level can be detected using biosensor

Is natural gas a biofuel?

Yes it is , mainly comes from methane gas also known as farts

What are the pros and cons of bio diesel?

Bio Diesel

Bio diesel is fuel that will run a diesel engine that is made from used oil or fat usually from deep fryers or even liposuction. pros are that is is cheap to make ( most resturants will gladly give it away), and it burns clean ( except for the smell of french fries), and you are recycling something that is normally disposed of ( very un-green). The only cons that I can think of are the amount of time it takes to refine it, and the space it takes up. Glycerine is the only real by-product and even that can be further refined into soap.

Bio diesel and cold weather dont get along. Below freezing temperatures are very risky because bio diesel will freeze in your car and then your stranded in the cold. It is not fun changing fuel filters in -10 deg F. weather, trust me on that one.
