How do airplane windows keep out the cold?

The only way that heat can escape the warm cabin is to travel through something or radiate outward. Since the windows are so small, the radiation through the windows is minimized. But if you put your face to the window, you will feel that it is colder than the wall next to it. Heat is radiating outward, but it is very inefficient. Airplane windows are also multi-paned and therefore have a vacuum in the middle. That means that the heat cannot travel through the material of the window by means of conduction. It has to travel through the walls of the aircraft which have a very high R value or insulation rating.

Why does a parakeet perch on one foot?

When they rest, most of their body heat escapes from their feet (like our heads), so by keeping one up tucked under their feathers, they are preserving body heat while being balanced on the perch.

What does it mean when your parakeets beak changes color?

That's normal. A parakeet's cere usually changes color after a year which is how you determine its gender. If I'm answering your question right, the "beak" you are refering to is the fleshy part above the beak.

If the beak (yellow-ish-orange-ish keratin area) is changing color, you should take him/her to the vet.

Should you wake up a parakeet or let it wake up itself?

All parrots must have proper and guiet 10-12 hour sleep every night. Before that they should not be waken up.

Parrots should also sleep during the day for couple of hours, and they should be able to sleep peacefully then too and should not be waken up.

All my parrots sleep in separate room (birdroom), in total darkness and in guiet, and they know after they've got their evening snack, they will have 15 minutes to go on their sleeping perches before lights go off. And that's what they do every night. They will sleep 12 hours, then the lights go back on and it's time to start a day.

Parrots love schedule and routines. It's easier to teach parrots to go inside their cage for the night when it happens every night the same time. It will become a routine for the birds and they will not guestion it.

How do you keep a green parakeet quiet?

First of all the color of your parakeet doesn't effect anything it does. Second, you can't make a parakeet be quiet. They're big flock birds so they always are communicating with one another. Each parakeet is different, I have two myself and one is quiet and only has a few outbursts while the other likes to talk all day long. If you dislike the sound then I suggest giving the parakeet away or getting used to it. Never EVER punish the parakeet by smacking it, spraying it, or anything else.

What is the symbolism or spiritual meaning of a titmouse bird trying to get in your house?

Not all naturally occurring phenomenon can or should be interpreted as signs or omens.

That said, there are places and cultures where any bird tapping on windows of a home is believed to be a sign of a coming death in the household.

Why does my pet duck stick its head under its wing while asleep Does its bill get cold?

Many different birds do this to sleep. Mainly it's to rest the neck muscles, they are laying their heads on their backs. The beaks just go under the wing because of the positioning really, it's also so they can better consume heat on the colder nights

How do you hand tame a zebra finch?

Start off by spending a lot of time near the birds. Just reading or watching tv next to their cage will work. When the birds no longer mind your being there you can move onto the next stage. Put your hand in the cage and just keep it there without moving it. Make sure the door is not so wide that they can escape. Your finches will probably be really nervous at first, but after a while, they will accept your hand and no longer view it as a threat. Just don't move it towards them! Once the finches remain calm when you put your hand in the cage, put their favorite treat on your hand. Millet spray works well for most birds. I had two birds, so I held the millet with my middle, ring, and pinkie finger, leaving the index and thumb for them to sit on. Once you start this step, it is best to not offer the treat unless it is on your hand. Eventually they will come just for the food. Keep at this until they jump on your hand within seconds of it coming into their cage. Then you can start giving them the treats after they come onto your hand.

I had two zebra finches when I was a kid and hand tamed them before anyone told me they couldn't be. They will not act like a parrot, but will eagerly come to your hand. My finches couldn't wait to get on my hand when they saw it and would let me scratch their heads sometimes. This is also a very useful trick if they get out of their cage since they will come right back to your hand.

Does riddex affect pets?

I tried one of these items. within 30 days i was ready to admit myself to a mental institution. i would sit outside and cry because i didnt want to go in my house. I thought it was because of the 8 inch scorpion i found in my bathroom and was badly unnerved by this. which is very unusual for me because i catch scorpions, poisioness spiders, tarantulas, sidewinder rattlesnakes all the time.
I called doctors, institutions and everyone i could think of. I already have mental illness, and i have been shocked with electricity very badly, i was scared for my mind.
My mom prayed for me, and then i just knew it was that riddex box. I unplugged it and within 24 hours i was back to normal, for me at least. i have been trying ever since to get ahold of the company with no luck.
If only i had checked the internet first.
there are many places that say it doesnt seem to work on anything but ants.
but i have only seen one post about it bothering a person. i am still trying to find out more, be careful of all those products that have no customer support

How do you get your bird to get in her cage?

Well, first off you have to think of why she isn't going in her cage. Could it be that she loves you too much to say goodbye? (if it is that, then you are obviously a good owner), or maybe that she is worried that she will never come out again? Well, make ure not to leave her/him in the cage too long! She will never go back in if you do.

Try putting some yummy treats in her cage, and as soon as she walks in, give her some time to eat them, pet her for a little bit, then slowly shut the cage.

DO NOT slam the cage door, or quickly shut it right when he gets in, because he will remember that.

How do you train a cockatiel from pooping on you?

Training a cockatiel to not poop on you, or other furniture is practically impossible. If you want to try though, train it almost as you would a dog. When your cockatiel poops on you, blow on it or spray him/her with water. Whatever you do DON'T yell at it(loudly say NO! or BAD!) this teaches the bird to say these words instead of disiplining it. Cockatiels learn words and phrases better when they are loud so don't yell at it. Just do something he doesn't like. Hope this helps a little.

Is it possible for dove eggs to be out of the nest for a day and still hatch under a heat lamp?

Don't think so.....out for a whole day? No heat? Heat lamp wouldn't work either ( I don't think) I think you need an incubator or to wrap them in a heating pad and cover that ( not even sure that would work).
