How can you find out the gender of a bird?
Most love birds are androgynous meaning males and females look identical. The only way to tell for sure if you have a boy or girl is to take it to your local board certified avian vet and have it DNA tested.

Can you house 2 male zebra finches together?
you can but they may fight and seriously injure each other or one may be picked on by the other some more serious results of bullying are broken jaws and the bullied finch may pluck its feathers out ect. i would advise housing two females instead although they may not look as good they will get along better than two malezs
I have two male zebra finches that have been together for a long time and they are best friends. They occasionally fight, but they make up quickly and they have neever hurt each other.
What is the longest life expectancy for a bird?
The question of the longest lived bird on earth is one that has titillated the curiosity of many ever since Bacon recognised that birds are much longer-lived than similar-sized mammals in the seventeenth century. The trend Bacon found is actually much stronger than he recognised because birds in the tropics, Australia and Southern Africa are much longer-lived than birds of the Enriched World (temperate Eurasia, North America, New Zealand and southern South America).
The exact identity of the longest-lived bird species is unclear. Large raptors (such as vultures), cockatoos and ground hornbills can probably live as long as most humans and a study of the Southern Ground Hornbill suggests its average lifespan in the wild is around thirty years. Parrots damage most bands so that longevity records in the wild are difficult to estimate, and few usable data exist from large raptors.
Seabirds, as a group, are noted for their longevity, with estimated average lifespans of even the tiny storm petrels being around eleven years. It is estimated that the average lifespan of a Wandering Albatross is around thirty-five to forty years, though because of this exact results from banding studies will take a long time to see whether they can live longer than the Cacatuidae or Bucorvidae.
How many eggs does a parakeet lay a year?
It depends on your parakeet.
If the parakeet is a female over about 4 months old, they are capable of laying eggs
If it does not have a mate, it usually will not lay any eggs, however its possible. Obviously these eggs will be infertile and will not hatch
If she does have a mate, they will lay eggs as long as they have access to a nest box and breeding stimulus (such as extended daylight)
It is healthy for a parakeet to lay up to 2 clutches of eggs a year. A clutch is usually 4 eggs. Any more than this and the birds health is endangered. Egg-laying uses up the calcium in the female bird (hen), so you will need to provide her with cuttlebone.
Dont attempt breeding your birds unless you have thorougly researched it first.
good luck
How do you know if a sun conure is pregnant?
They don't get pregnant, exactly. They'll lay an egg that could be unferilized or could be fertilized. Generally, if it doesn't hatch after two months, then I would say the eggs are not going to turn out to be baby birdies.
Yes beetles are food.
Almost all wasps are carnivores to some degree. And some species of wasps feed on beetles. However, most wasps are very specific about what insect, or spider they choose to eat or to feed their young. And the wasp can be highly adapted and optimized for perusing their preference for specific species, or even sub-species. For example, tarantula hawks, a rather large wasp, only pursue tarantulas, nothing else. And some may only pursue one specific tarantula species. This species-specific trait of predator for prey can sometimes be quite beneficial in agriculture to control a specific insect problem without impacting other insects, which may be beneficial. A farmer will order a specific commercially available wasp species (or other predator insect types), or their larva, to be released in his fields to control a very specific insect pest. This is a form of biological pest control that, in some cases, has proven to be quite effective. If you have a specific beetle, which is eating your crop, there may very well be a specific wasp species with a preference for that specific beetle.
Why did your budgie laid an unfertilized egg?
Well you see......This is a simple answer.Budgies throw their eggs out because people look at their nests, taking their eggs and mostly when people take one budgies and when others budgies see you are taking a budgie, they get annoyed by you and then throw their eggs out..............sometimes when male or female or one of the budgie in the cage dies then this happens.
Do budgies have purple tongues?
I don't think so. Because I had two budgies and they both had pink tongues. I know this because they yawned and regurgitated alot.
A duck's (female) egg are fertilie only if the duck has mated with a drake (male) with in at least the two week. All eggs might not hatch this is due to many things like; heat, moisture, health of both parents and how well the duckling growing in the shell is. Some just aren't to the point of hatching before the mother leaves the nest. There are a great many things that can go wrong before hatch date.
What happens when a tamed bird eats wild bird food?
Nothing really, except he might not be getting the right nutrition. Some bird seeds are heavy on things like thistle or sunflower to attract a certain kind of bird. Too much of those seeds would be bad for most tame birds. There are three categories of food for pet birds: seed, pellets, and people food. My birds won't eat pellets so they get seed and people food. If you eat well, easy on the meat and a good amount of fruits and veggies, your bird can eat what you eat with a little seed on the side.
The simple answer is yes, frogs do hiccup
"Christian Straus and co-workers at the Respiratory Research Group, University of Calgary, Canada, propose that the hiccup is an evolutionary remnant of earlier amphibian respiration; amphibians such as frogs gulp air and water via a rather simple motor reflex akin to mammalian hiccuping."
Why is your parakeet shivering?
Your parakeet may be cold or sick. If it is cold, you may have it too close to air conditioning or something that has cold drafts. If you get your parakeet wet enough and don't dry it, it could catch a chill and die. Sometimes they are simply nervous and will sit and puff out their feathers. You should take it to a veterinarian to make sure it is not sick.
Why does your budgie have black nails?
A budgie may have black nails because of the tone of their feet themselves. If a budgie has darker, grey-toned feet, and black nails, it should be fine. However, if a budgie haspink feet and black nails, it could mean the budgie has an infection or a dietary problem. Call a vet if you think there might be something wrong with your budgie.
How can you feed my parakeets fruits and vegetables?
well my budgie is kinda picky so i cut the carrot up into TINY little pieces. Im talking smaller than diced. just tiny tiny little pieces that he can just pop into his mouth like a seed haha. hes plenty capable of ripping the carrot up himself he just wont.
What should you do with a chicken that has lost the mobility of its legs?
Most chickens that lost the use of its\'s legs have either suffered a trauma (slipping on footing) or have a genetic or nutritional problem. If the bird is separated from a flock for 1-3 days and doesn't recover the wisest and most economical decision is to euthanize the bird. Most birds with this problem are 1-4 weeks old, but can be seen in a little older birds on occassion.
How can you get rid of and prevent bird lice?
Fullers earth dust (diatomaceous earth) is a natural remedy. There are lots of insecticide powders.
where can i find earth dust?
Of course you can! In fact an all seed diet is very unhealthy for your bird. It can decrease there life span by half. They espescially like lettuce or oranges.
VARY YOUR PARAKEETS DIET!
How can I tell if my parakeet's leg is broken?
If the leg is broken it will stand on one leg all day or lie on the bottom of its cage. Its best seeing a vet.
How do you clip parakeet wings?
You clip a parakeets wings the way you do any other birds. You hold tall of the wing feathers in one hand then you have to look for the 6 non-nerve feathers there is only 6 on each wing but to be safe I would suggest that you bring your parakeet to the vet they will do it for most likely around $30.00 which is not to bad compard to if you cut the wrong wing and had to go to the vet for an emergency.
NO NO NO!!! Take it to a little place I take my bird called, The Bird Shop. Look for it in the phone book. They will clip small bird's wings for only $3.00 and clip their nails for only $2.00. MUCH BETTER THAN DOING IT YOURSELF!!!
What should you do when your parakeet dies?
My parakeet who died recently on July 25, 2011 around 5:00 in the evening died. I cried a lot...but does it help.....nope. Cryings okay, but don't think it will help. We buried her in our garden with many flowers. She had given birth to 2 females and mated with two boys. Don't pity your parakeet when he/she dies..... pity the living. If your parakeet died with pain, you should be relieved that their out of pain, but sad she's gone,if she died old, she lived a happy long life and left for death like a friend. Anything else......its ok to mourn for them but it wont help. You should feel aomewhat happy about it
It's the little colored band above their beak with the two little holes in it. You can tell a male and a female apart by the color of the cere once the birds are older. The cere will be blue if it is a boy and pinkish brown if it is a girl. The colors will change often when they are under 6 months old, but when they are about that age the color will settle. A cere is the nose
Yes, but not for long.
First, a group will form. This is known as a den or a hive. Comparable to penguins durring the winter in Antarctica, except without the sense of community. Stronger parakeets will go to the centre of the hive while weaker ones will be forced to the edges. There is no rotation, a strong parakeet will stay in the center for as long as possible. As food becomes scarce, the dead and dying will become cannibalized.
Because of this self-destructive nature, most hives collapse before spring; Without the hive to keep them warm, even the strongest parakeets sucumb to the cold.
How can you tell if a baby bird is a boy or a girl?
(i left the joke under cause it deserves to(:)
well if the dog, has a penis, then its a boy, if it doesn't then its a girl.
sometimes the boys have dots near their penis that looks like the girls parts, but idk about that, but point is:
penis = boy
no penis = girl
This remind's me of a joke. A father took his children to a garage sale one morning, when they got home mum asked what did they see there, one child replied puppies, their mother asked were they male or female, the child replied their were 2 males and 1 female, how did you know that mum asked, the child replied, dad kept picking them and looking under their belly i supposed it must have printed there.
