What does the poem caged bird mean?

"Caged Bird" is a poem by Maya Angelou that represents many ideas, themes, and thoughts, so it doesn't necessarily have just one meaning. This poem states that there are two birds, one trapped in a cage, and the other in free and flying in the sky. The trapped bird represents an African American man or woman, while the free bird represents a white man or woman. The poem is portraying the relationship between an African American person and a Caucasian person (AKA: segregation). Maya Angelou is explaining the feelings of racial discrimination, segregation, and domination. The poem describes how she was the bird that was trapped and tied up and unable to reach freedom. The caged bird can be interpreted as the black race being held back from freedom by their skin color. The fat worms and breeze in the poem symbolize hope and opportunity. In the poem, it is constantly repeated that "his wings are clipped and his feet are tied so he opens his throat to sing." This is implying that even though this bird is trapped, it still has hope. The bird will continue to persevere and not give up. It sings about the hope of things to come, not necessarily of happiness.

What are the 3 most important things to know about caring for birds?

Off the top of my head, these are the three that i thought of. Feel free to contribute!

Space- Make sure that the area you are going to keep your bird is big enough. A parrot requires more space than a parakeet, for example. The cage also needs to be big enough, too. Make sure your bird can move around! If you are getting multiple birds, plan accordingly.

Time- Taking care of any animal requires some time. If you want a realtionship with your bird, you need to take a little time to play with it or have interaction of some kind. Birds can do alright by themselves for a little while, but they still need a companion. If you are not going to be around a lot, i would recommend getting two.

Cleanliness- A lot of bird sicknesses can happen because of a dirty environment. I'm not saying that you have to have perfectly clean room all of the time, but make sure that you keep the bird cage clean. Food and water should be cleaned everyday and the cage should be cleaned regularly.

I hope this helps!

How long does it take for a parakeet to lay her eggs?

Well, Parakeets breed in the beginning of Spring and Fall. As an example, I'm going to use Fall. On the first day of Fall (September 23 *2010*), would be the best time to put in the nest box. Maybe even earlier. Then, you should waite about an exact month. (My Parakeets mated after an exact month). Which would be October 23. Around those days---October 22,23,24--- your Parakeets should mate. You should at least waite a week (Example: October 22-29). <<< If you don't see your Parakeets mate within these days, they probably don't want to, or their not ready to breed yet. Your Parakeets should mate for a few days till their done mating. After their done mating, about 10 days later, her eggs should start to appear. Now, all you have to do, is sit back, and watch little, young, beautiful Parakeets grow up to be amazing pets! :D :D :D

You need to get your bird to a avian veterinarian now. This is very serious and sounds like egg binding which is a extremely serious condition in birds and is often fatal if not treated asap. Good luck.
