To check or change the battery on the BMW R1200C, you must remove the gas tank. I would suggest that if you are going to check the battery or replace it you might as well change the air filter as it is under the tank also. This seems to be a faulty gear selector problem. This is a recall item in the 750 series begining mid-2000's. I have a 2003 745Li and purchased a new gear selector, which I am about to have installed. I would not do this install youself - I would go to a certified BMW mechanic (not the stealership), because the airbag has to be removed and an impact wrench is needed to remove the metal frame under the airbag,which allows access to the gear selector. This problem has been keeping my car's computer "alive" after I shutdown the car that results in the battery going dead all the time. You can get the part (6927887) on ebay for less than $75 USD.

Under hood, front-top of engine. Black housing with what looks like a black plastic nut on top af a lid. Kinda resembles a power steering fill. Open that and your filter is located inside of it. I have a 2003 BMW 325xi and am doing oil change this weekend. 7 quarts of full synthetic oil is what dealer said.
