The end of I Am The Cheese means that Adam is to repeat the interviews and flashbacks each year over and over or until he dies because he cant accept the fact that his father is dead. That is why Brint questions Adam is so that he can try to uncover anymore information about what him or his father knew about the organized crime. Basically Adam has been doing the interviews for 3 years and haven't uncovered anything new that could really help Brint so he is kept at the hospital until he dies or until they kill him.
